Evander Holyfield vs John Ruiz Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora What are some trilogies no-one wanted that you can name?
Not quite world level but Sam Soliman and Anthony Mundine. Mundine won the first by split decision and he knocked Soliman out in the second fight. For some reason, a year later they fought again. Mundine won that to sweep the trilogy.
I don’t exactly know the demand/gate receipts for same, but I might guess that the precluded black dynamite being forced to fight one another over and over again might’ve possibly seen less demand and ever diminishing returns upon every next fight but it’s certainly possible that wasn’t the case. I might also guess that it perhaps saw less inspired performances from said fighters after their 3rd, 4th etc. go around - particularly if they saw no point in putting in 100% and beating each other up each and every time out.
Tony Zale vs. Al Hostak? Tony Zale had beaten Al Hostak quite comfortably on points in a non-title fight in 1940. Later that year, Zale won the NBA title by stopping Hostak in the 13th round, and they fought for a third time in 1941, with Zale knocking Hostak out in the second round. And this was during the era of Murderers' Row (Charley Burley & Co.), while guys like Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles were around as well.
It might have made sense in the context of the time by Demspey-Fat Boy Meehan is certainly a strange one.
Not a trilogy, but Lucien Rodriguez finally outpointed Alfredo Evangelista in their 4th meeting after being knocked out 3 times previously
