I hailed the Ali-Frazier/Barrera-Morales as the gold standard for flawless trilogies, but someone could consider the middle fights quite uneventful so I count 'em out. Bowe-Fields is goated but Bowe not being so in shape during the 2nd bout and Fields basically being a corpse because his health problems during the 3rd kinda detract for me. And nope, Gatti-Ward doesn't belong there either because the 2nd fight too.
If we're going to look at it that way, and I totally agree that we should look at it that way - then Ali lost the trilogy to Norton. Not only that. If we're going to look at it that way, then Ali H2H lost to Norton. Not in some hypothetical "H2H story", but in 3 fights that actually happened.
I was referring more to the perspective of the quality of the trilogy itself and the main topic of the thread but yeah, always felt that way too.
I suppose Fury v Windmill. 3 exciting fights in their own way. The last was poor in terms of boxing quality but still exciting.
Patterson v ingmar graziano v zale vazquez v marquez though they did fight a fourth pacquiao vs morales was good even though he ran through morales in the finale
IMO third Pazienza vs Haugen was not good and Vazquez vs Larios III ending was anticlimatic despite being a good fight
