I know ther was never a rematch but is it true trinidad offered it to him right after the fight and de la hoya refused because he wanted to pursue a singing career(WTF)?
The truth as I understand it is DLH offered the fight to Trinidad but Trinidad was going to make less than DLH. Trinidad felt that because he beat DLH he should make the same if not more. This is the real story, not much romance to it. Tito moved up in weight soon after. DLH's singing career started before Tito fight as I remember.
They have never been able to come to terms, because Tito has always wanted to make more money, Also, Tito has always wanted Oscar to move up in weight to fight him. First, Tito wanted Oscar to come to 154, make 30%to Tito's 70% and then they wanted it 60/40 in favor of Tito... and give Don King options. Yeah... like that's ever going to happen. Oscar has made Tito several offers over the years. He even went to Tito's house in PR, ate dinner with him, and tried to work out a fight between the two that made sense. Tito has always refused. The last time that it was offered... Tito turned it down... wanted Oscar to come to 160, once again make 40%, and give Don King options. It is really simple guys... Tito only counters with offers that he knows will never be accepted. Oscar is a larger draw... and Oscar was completely robbed in their first fight... PLUS, there is no way in hell that Oscar would ever give Don King options on him. Only after Oscar made it clear that he will never fight at 160 again, and Tito got embarrassed by Wright... did Papa Trinidad say "Ok, we will give Oscar 50-50, but the fight would be at 160. First off.... Tito doesn't deserve 50-50, and Oscar isn't going to go to 160.
if DLH cared about his legacy hed pay tito what he wanted and just take the fight i cant stand DLH sometimes. between his let me fight once a year attitude and this crap hes just hurting his own place in the boxing shrine
#1 - Any real boxing fan already knows that Oscar beat Tito. We don't need the scorecards to let us know what we saw in the ring. So, Oscar's legacy doesn't take a hit either way. It will always go down in history as a robbery. #2 - Oscar beating Tito right now in Tito's career, won't get Oscar any new respect from people who already don't respect him. Why should he give Tito a bigger payday than even he would get, just so everyone could say "That proves nothing. Tito is washed up and has been retired twice anyways". That wouldn't help his legacy either.
If you don't know what he means... then obviously you don't know enough about this sport, or this topic to be bothered with anyways. If you are pulling Oscar's resume into question "vargasfan" then you clearly have an agenda.
i know who won the trinidad DLH fight. tito did.....only on the cards but DLH fuc*ed himself by running the last what, 3 or 4 rounds. not tito's fault so since tito TECHNICALLY won he should get the bigger purse. DLH is rich as it is if he wants to avenge a loss MONEY should not be an issue i agree beating tito wouldnt change minds of most but i would personally like DLH to avenge that loss. id give him props if he did and im sure hed feel great about that win.
he said body of work. that can mean a lot of things. if we are talking about resumes then ya DLH has an awesome one. im not disputing that at all. and dont sit here and tell me i dont know enough about the sport. ive been watching fights since i was 16 and im almost 23. i watch the older fights as well.
Oscar avoided exchanges in the last 2 rounds. Big ****in' deal. How does that lose a fight that you have dominated in? There is no way on this earth that you can give Tito enough rounds to have won that fight. Oscar sure as hell isn't the first guy in history to coast to a victory after winning an entire fight. He was just robbed... and 90% of the boxing world knows it. The other 10% make up fans from PR, Tito's close family and friends, and a couple of people who were dropped on their head repeatedly as a baby.
