What De La Hoya should have said

I think if we had the full context of the quote we could give better opinions.

It's funny De La Hoya because his machismo was hurt tried to walk down Mosley after the Tito fight like a madman. But he never seemed worried about putting it right by rematching Trinidad and erasing the legacy of him running like a ***** in his career defining fight. He took the easy way out, just like he did in the fight itself. Believing because many thought he should've been given the decision, the fact he lost and his chicken **** performance in the final rounds would be forgotten and forgiven. Wrong. There's no hiding in a fishnet from that!

Basically, the fight took a long time to put together because Arum and King couldn't agree a purse split. Eventually they agreed - Oscar got $15 million, Tito got $10.5 million.

After the contracts were signed, Oscar kept saying Tito didn't deserve to make that kind of money and was only getting it because he was fighting him.

After Tito got the decision and gave his interview to Larry Merchant he said "I've got a question for Oscar - am I worth $10.5 million now?" Oscar looked pretty uncomfortable as the translator and a few others burst out laughing, then he said "look, I know Trinidad is a very confident fighter, so I was just trying to take his confidence away. But it's no problem, we can go to dinner now" ×plasters on a fake smile and shakes hands with Tito×

Was Tito's performance worth the $10.5 million? If Oscars was worth $15 million, then yeah, probably.

Ok but why does the OP say " After that performance no" I haven't watched the match in a looong time but I thought Oscar not Tito was the one who took his foot off the gas especially during the later rounds?

Yeah, it was Oscar who blatantly ran in the last few rounds because he thought he had the fight in the bag. I imagine the thread-starter thinks, like many others, that Tito fought poorly and had to rely on Oscars running to get a (very controversial) decision.

The fact is, neither guy earned their substantial pay-cheques that night.

At the end of the night no matter what anyone says aside from the decision that night. Trinidad was trying to give the fans a fight, a night to remember. If the fight didn't live to be what was thought to be, Trinidad for sure wasn't to be blame for.

Everyone knows and accepts DLH won that fight. The purses sound about right.

Bull****, it was an amazing disply of skill on DLH's part. He jabbed, threw combinations, had fantastic footwork. Busted up Trinidad's face. Outboxed Trinidad. Great display of the sweet science.

The 11th and 12th rounds were not good rounds for either fighter, sure.

But Trinidad was there to be hit every round because he knew everytime he engaged...*pop-pop-pop-snap!*

He was very very gun shy for what Trinidad is accustomed too.
