The rematch was hurt by arguments over purse splits and weight not because one fighter ducked another. Tito had moved up in weight and Hoya stayed at welter. DLH wanted him to come down and Tito wanted Hoya to come up. As the years rolled on the issues became deeper and neither side would budge. Tito was always one step ahead of Hoya in the weight climbing so it never materialized. I think the very last "offer" by Trinidad was right before Hoya fought Pac in which he wanted Hoya to come up to 160 to meet there, and as everyone knows, Hoya swore to never fight at that weight again. They both wanted the rematch at their optimum fighting weight but Tito always looked north and DLH always looked south. It says a lot that in their last fights Tito fought at 170 and DLH at 147 (145). That's how big the gulf between them had become.

Oscar retired. There was no more reason for the alias to exist.

De la Hoya lost the last four rounds. If you weren't a biased nuthugger you'd accept that. De la Hoya didn't run because he had the fight in the bag he ran because he faded badlly down the stretch and his legs had gone, just like in every fight of his career!
