Roy Jones wins this fight by a very wide UD. I explained in another thread that if he has any desire to return to the top echelons of the sport then he must stop Trinidad. However, he will play it safe and box to a comfortable decision. Either way Jones will win and you can take that to the bank.:deal
This a snorefest between two retired, overage, overweight ex-champs who will think of protecting themselves in the fight (in short, they won't trade) and who are just for it for the money they can get from people who will pay to see it (not me.)
This fight may not necessarily be the cake walk for Jones it would have been a few years ago. Roy's hand speed, and lead right hand, would have done it for him then. It may be enough now, I'm not saying it won't be. He might just set his right hand with his jab at this advanced age. Jones has always had a jab, it looked real good when he wanted to use it. Look at his fight with Pazienza. The problem with Roy now, more than ever, is his willingness to go to ropes. Jones just lays there, and let's his opponent fire away. Maybe his legs are shot. I thought they were some time ago, but he proved me wrong in his 3rd fight with Tarver. That was no where near Jones best performance, but his legs were very much underneath him there. If Jones goes to the ropes, he may be inviting a little more harm than he wishes. Nothing gets Trinidad going like having a chance to let his hands go. When Trinidad fought Mayorga, Mayorga looked as though he may have been intimidating Felix a bit in the opening round. Mayorga clipped his a couple times, before dropping his hands letting Trinidad hook him. Had Mayorga done this once, he may have kept his momentum. However, that 2nd or 3rd time was a big mistake. It looked as though Trinidad got a shot of momentum injected in him. He flipped switch and got into a search and destroy mode, and stayed that way until he destroyed his target. Also remember the power Trinidad carried to middleweight. No one has done to Joppy what Tito did. Jones may very well hit too hard for Trinidad at this weight. It is important to note all the clean punches he took from Hopkins before falling. Trinidad's chin has been questioned a lot, but it has only failed him once. Jones is probably going to hit harder than anyone Tito has ever faced. It is not unreasonable to think Jones can ko him, early even. It is also not unreasonable to think he may have to put more than one shot into doing so. I'm going to watch this fight. It has too many possible scenarios. Early ko for Jones, maybe even one punch. Jones going to the ropes, and getting koed by Trinidad, maybe even one punch. Jones putting on a boxing display, and outpointing the smaller man. Jones outboxing Trinidad at times, and Trinidad busting up Jones on the ropes at others.
Yeah, the main thing is Jones going to the ropes, like he has done since Tarver I. He cant do that, because i think he wont be able to take it as much, but on the other hand, i dont think Tito can dish it out for that long But 5th Round KO, or Wide UD
Roy in a close decision. If Roy doesn't knock Tito out by the middle rounds it will be a close decision, possibily even a sd or md. I can't see Tito knocking out Roy.
