Was trinidad out of shape against roy jones, or at this age is that the best he can possibly look? Because i imagine he still worked hard in the gym to last 12 rounds with the much bigger man throwing quite a lot of shots.

plain and simple, he's still a great fighter. . . . but Roy was too big for him

I bet he can do much better at 154-160

He threw around 550 punches in that fight, which is a good number for him, and even in his prime would have been good. He never throws a very high number because he throws every punch like he means it and he has a patient kind of style, so an average of about 45 a round is high for him, especially since he was in there carrying more weight than ever.

So no, he was certainly not out of shape and he could still be a good tough opponent for most and maybe all fighters at 168 i think.

i'd much rather see him return to 160, but he's simply refusing that, it seems.

    wrong weight class.
roy jones was ripped and ready even with a busted left bicep trinidad was flabbyish, he was in decent shape but just not fighting shape he should be fighting at 160. or even 154.

he showed better combinations than his one shot style years before. body shots where pretty good for a ko artist.

it wasnt as bad a fight on paper as the boxing world thought it was. trinidad wasnt shot but just not in his prme or wieght class

Trinidad has one shot left, in 2009, and thats if he decides to start marathon training right now. I'd love to see him have one more shot at 160, and against someone like a Felix Sturm.

I noticed that as well. RJJ is a heavyweight, trapped in a 175 body.

Since when does laughing at your opponent mean anything?
More often than not, when a fighter laughs at his opponent, it's a sign that he actually IS feeling the shots and he's trying to fool his opponent into thinking he's NOT feeling them.

In this fight though i don't think that's what it was, i think it was more of a mindgame to get Tito to open up, so Roy could counterpunch.

But please note that after the fight Roy did say; "i felt his power".

He looked in awful shape and he has a Glass Jaw. Roy could have KOed him if he had tried a little harder he was just afraid to get hit on his Glass Jaw also.

Tito has no business at 168, he needs to make 160 to be competitive

I think Roy smiled when he realized he can still/again (?) take a punch from a decent puncher. Roy is into this "my body had to heal the last 3 years" thing and he believes he is now getting better with every fight. But Trinidad was never a threat to Roy, as he wasnt for Wright, as he wasnt for Hopkins. His best days are long over and fighting once every 2 years doesnt help exactly. I recently watched a little bit of Prime Tito vids. He was a real killer, but 2008 he has nothing left, especially not at 168. Against Sturm @160 maybe, but even in this bout i wouldnt make him a clear favorite.

Trinidad should not fight over 154lbs. He can do this weight if he wants. But he has to work at it. He is tall but has a small frame. Just look at his skinny legs. At 154lbs he can be world champion again

Trinidad-Sturm at MSG would sell BIG Time.
