Trinidad P4P from 1990-99

Well, there's Pernell Whitaker, Oscar Delahoya, Roy Jones, Mike Tyson, Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, then ya.. number 7.

 

He was a consistent performer with a top resume...

 

When people talk about the 90's, you get the impression that RJJ was the undisputed number 1 P4P fighter all the way through the decade, but that's false.

All of those guys (and maybe I'm missing one or two more) had spells as the number 1 fighter in the sport, so it's conceivable to rank Tito at around about the number seven mark.

Also, it's a damn shame that Mosley and Trinidad never got to fight at 147.

 

I'm biased because I love Tito - but I think this ranking is generally accurate.

oscar fought (and beat) the better version of whitaker and also boasted victories over chavez (the first of which is a very underreated win), a good hard fought victory over quartey,he was the first to beat hernandez,beat some good lightweights such as ruelas,he beat carr and he should have gotten the win over trinidad (that 'victory' is probably why tito ranks higher)

 

An exciting fighter, great KO's.

A little bit overrated in his prime due to fan friendly style and popularity.

Don't have any problem with this rating.

I remember when Oscar took over the p4p from Roy for a year or two. Just due to Roy facing poor competition and Oscar having some wars vs. Quartey, Molina, Hernandez, etc. But that fight vs. Tito really fuked **** up.

 

How does Trinidad rank over Oscar? That's some fuked up ****.
Oscar had the better resume hands down.
Oscar did lose vs. Tito but 99% of boxing experts had Oscar winning that fight.
I love how people say Oscar ran the last 4 rounds. Actually it was only the 11th and 12th is when he went on his bike. I had Oscar up 8 rounds to 2 going into the 11th. At worst Tito won 3 of those first 10 rounds.

 

Whitaker is the consensus second best fighter of the 90's, Flexb.

Some rate him above Jones.

 

It is fair to say in the top ten.

 

Whitaker was basically done in 97, but he had done so much by that point that he easily could have been named #1

 

You probably had Oscar beating Pacquaio.

There is an argument for ranking Tito above Oscar, not a certain case but certaintly an argument.

Tito has a much more impressive win over Sweat Pea who himself ranks high on the list of 90's fighters. (Yes Pea had aged) There's a thought in Boxing that De La Hoya was given the Pea fight. Pernell said himself before the fight, the only way he'd win was to KO Oscar, because of how much money DLH was worth to Boxing.

Trinidad had the first win over Oba Carr, De La Hoya the second.

De La Hoya won a close fight with Ike, again there's argument as to did he or did he not recive a favourable decision from the judges as at this point the Tito super fight was being mooted.

I belive Oscar won the Tito fight aswell, but have no issue with the Judges giving it to Trinidad after the way Oscar 'fought' the last few rounds.

In the 90's Tito also had a very good win over Fernando Vargas.

Like I said, There is an argument for ranking Tito above Oscar. To dismiss it completely is just blind fandom.

ODLH was better than Tito both p4p and h2h.
