It's a good advice from tito. Cotto have several reserves left in his tank. He can still win a belt at 147 that's for sure. But taking such punishment in his upcoming fights will be bad to his health in the long run. Cotto is young, lots of money. He should call it a day after a few fights and live long & healthy.

I'm still confident that cotto can whoop Berto's ass.

I am not a fan of fighters just continuing to fight for no reason.... this is their lives, family and friends getting battered in there every time they get abused like that. Cotto doesnt need the money, cotto at his peak beat mosley, but barely.... i dont think todays cotto could, and i see nothing that makes me think he would beat margarito in a rematch (i thought he could, but if anything he handles pressure worse now then he did) he obviously cant beat pac and i actually think the safest fight out there is mayweather for him but mayweather isnt going to fight him because theres nothing to gain from it now.

Cotto should continue? why.... so he can beat a few mid level top 10's and then in a year or two get beat down in another big fight? Cotto is better then that and shouldnt let his name be used like that, a fighter should know when hes not the same as he once was, and if hes not going to do anything to right the ship then he should call it a career.

This is coming from me caring about him, his legacy and his future..... and not just wanting to see what cool fights can be made.

If Cotto wants to continue, then he needs to go soul searching.... and needs to be smart enough to know what hes doing wrong in both training camp and inside the ring. He needs to work on his once polished skills, and learn to stick to gameplans inside the ring. He will need to start winning more on his intelligence and experience in the ring instead of breaking down his opponents. Cotto is not at 140 anymore, his opponents will be big, strong men with good chins who all can hurt him..... hes on the wrong side of his best and has taken bad beatings, i just dont see the point in continuing for money and a few decent names to add on to his resume.

Retire, enjoy the kids, the wife, the times.... hes already proved himself a warrior and has been in the ring with this generations best and has nothing to be ashamed of, hes beaten sugar shane mosley, clottey, quintana, torres, ect.... and lost to margarito in a questionable loss and was beat by one of the best fighters of this generation.

Whatever he decides i will support him, and be in his corner..... doesnt mean i dont have my own opinion and that is that he should just call it a career.

Again, i dont like when fighters just aimlessly fight on......

if he proves me wrong id be very happy, but how many fighters continue to fight on when they shouldnt? always thinking that next time they will be better.

Cotto is not a journeman who fights on because this is how he makes his living, cotto has made his money.
Cotto is not the fighter continuing to search for his defining fight... cotto has fought those already.
Cotto is not someone who needs to fight because straight up they just love it and thats what they were born for.... he is indeed awaiting retirement.

whatever he decides i will support..... but i think he really needs to do some soul searching.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a fighter to retire if you dont see the point of him continuing anymore, better just retire and enjoy life. Too many people around here think theres some magic number of beatdowns you can recieve before you start slurring words, sorry but thats not the case. There should be important reasons for continuing fighting, and if Cotto doesnt want to anymore then i think he should indeed, retire. Nothing wrong with that, its sad people think there IS something wrong with that actually imo.

Im just saying i dont see the point.... so he fights on a picks up an alphabet strap, probably is in some decent scraps down the line with some fighters that match up against him but, for what? i dont see him doing any legacy enhancing things from here on out, i dont care who can see it or who cant, i can... cotto has lost the form hes had and unless he makes the changes in the gym and inside the ring hes not going to be the same cotto, hes at 147 now where a lot of the guys he will be facing are big, strong guys who can hurt him....
hes young, has a family and fame..... why fight a bunch of semi pointless fights and continue getting punished? retire and enjoy himself, move on to the next chapter of his life for Gods sakes.... getting beat down like he has is no joke and theres no magical number saying he can take 'this' many more before he will start slurring his words.

its not worth it.... Cotto is BETTER then that and WAS better then that. A fighter like cotto should be fighting for legacy or nothing at all, he doesnt need money, hes not one of these guys that just LOVE fighting that thats why they remain in the sport, hes better then a guy hunting for a pointless abc belt or mid top 10 guys, hes a big fight fighter.... meaning his place is in with the best of his division, and unless he REALLY, REALLY wants it, and changes what he needs to in the gym and inside the ring.... i just dont see the point.

Whatever he decides i support him, and im not saying i dont think he could.... im just saying with the top guys right now being mosley, pac, margarito, mayweather, clottey, ect.... and cotto very well possibly having seen his best days and him handling pressure now even worse then he used to, i just dont see the point. Im sick of seeing fighters i love fighting past their best when theres not a whole lot to gain from it, unless they truly love what their doing. Cotto is someone that should just take a vacation and truly think and soul search on what he wants to do next.

some people wont be happy till hes been ridden into the dirt fighting i think.

so now suggesting that cotto should maybe retire is being a hater?

i think it takes a bigger fan to know when your fighter should retire then it is to continue sending him out there just to see what 'cool fights' can be made off his name and declining abilities.

People can **** off if they think anyone being 'unloyal' to cotto because some concerned fans think he should hang them up. Not many fighters take the beatings miguel has taken, and with him past his best, unless he wants to make one last ditch effort to go for the best again (which would take probably 2-3 more fights against dangerous contenders to reach the summit again) and make an honest effort to switch up his training, regain his lost form and stamina, i guess to win a few more fights.

But IMO, hes not going to do anything legacy changing so whats the point.... hes proven he was one of the top fighters of this generation/era, proven hes a warrior, is a multi time world champion and a millionair.

Cotto is better then to keep fighting and letting someone use his name as an opponent.

I say have a comeback fight, see how it goes from there.... but if he starts having his typical wars with the likes of berto and such trying to make his way to the top again, whats the point at this stage of his career?

Some people wont be happy till a fighter is rode into the ground fighting, and thats ****ing pointless, and sad, and cotto is better then that.

Trinidad needs to STFU really. He should have retired after the beating Hopkins gave him, he also took a ****ing beating from Winky. At least Cotto was throwing punches even when he was going backwards. Trinidad didnt even land a ****ing glove on Winky, he just eat that jab and left cross all night long.
This is the same dude who backed Cotto over Pac and is now telling him to quit now??

It goes beyond what any of us want I'm afraid.

When a man has to put food on the table and look after the future of his family its a bit different I'm afraid. He hasnt earnt enough to be able to retire now.

He is still young and needs a well earned rest.

Im not too sure he has Kayo. He must have got quite a bit against Pac but apart from that I'm not sure. I know Arum is a bit of a pimp.
At 29 I think he has a couple more fights in him, he isnt shot. He can retire by 32 but right now may be a bit early.

That's funny. In the reality I live in. Tito "retired" shortly after the beating he got from Hopkins and he was never the same fighter again.

I hear u man, I also think 32/33 is a good age to hang it up, thats my plan.
Arum in my books is very scaley hahaha I guess that goes with any promoter.

I honestly just want Miguel to do whats best for him and his family, I also dont wanna remember him as my idol that fought longer than he should of...

I agree, think he can beat Berto but one thing I noticed about Cotto is that he has trouble changing direction.. this was very evident on saturday
