Anyone feel this fight which may have been the most hyped fight of the 1990's would've been completely different and perhaps far better a fight had it been 15 rounds? Trinidad too me is very similar to Arguello and I think would've been an even tougher guy to beat in a 15 round fight. Oscar I believe would've had to open up more and try to put more of a hurting on Trinidad instead of trying to box his way to a decision. I feel this would've made for a lot more fireworks and a much more dramatic finish. Perhaps Oscar opening up is able to blow away Trinidad in the early or mid rounds or maybe this gives Trinidad the opening he needs to catch Oscar. Perhaps De La Hoya breaks down in the late rounds and Trinidad catches up to him. Maybe they fight hard to the finish.. Who knows, 12 round fights are great but nothing beat the old 15 rounders those 3 extra rounds make a huge difference and a completely different fight this can separate the great from very good.
Trinidad would have closed the gap and defeated Oscar by a decision...possibly even by a late tko. ALL TITLE FIGHTS SHOULD BE 15 ROUNDERS!!!!!!
Oscar got a reputation for fading late in fights, but when you look at his entire carreer that is unfair. When he got older and became a part time fighter he seemed to get tired late when facing the best, but in the 90's he was know for fighting great closing rounds against Withaker, Quartey and Molina, so I don't think the 15 round distance would bother him that much. The fight was fought at a slow tempo with few exchanges, and this was because Oscar made it so. I don't think he would have wanted a faster paced fight if it was over 15 rounds. The opposite if anything. So I see it paning out just as it did, with Oscar outboxing Tito for most of the rounds but never really steppin on the gas. Of course more rounds means more opportunities for Tito to land something big, but I doubt he would.
