...Just curious to see if anyone picks Trinidad at his best at 147 versus the Duran that beat Leonard.
Can a case be made for Trinidad?

Trinidad way too predictable for Duran, and not elusive enough either.

I'd like Trinidad against a guy like Mosley.

The problem Trinidad would have is that Duran would slaughter him on the inside, Trinidad would have to spend most of the fight trying to keep Duran from trying to get in the inside. If Duran didn't have such a great chin and defensive skills, this could be possible, but he does so Trindad wouldn't have really any way of winning outside of a one punch KO and that ain't happening.

Trinidad vs that version of Duran would result in a masterclass performance by the Panamanian....on par with or better than his Montreal bout with SRL.

Duran would beat Tito like he did Barkley.

Sure. I'm not much of a Trinidad fan but a case can absolutely be made. Had the size, reach, and power (in both hands) to take control of and end the fight if Duran got overly aggressive and walked into something. I just don't see eye-to-eye with the folks around here who seem to think that Duran was invincible.

I think that Ray Leonard is a much more impossible matchup for Tito.

He barely won the Montreal bout... (and some of us think that it probably could have gone either way)

It would be a fun fight to watch for 6 or 7 rounds until Duran completely takes over.

You do know that Montreal Duran beat Ray Leonard don't you?

If so you're essentially saying Trinidad has no chance against the guy who lost to Duran but he would beat Duran by KO. That barely makes sense, especially given the clean shots SRL landed during that fight.

Perhaps, but as you yourself said SRL would beat Trinidad so what's your point? Hell that version of SRL would have also beaten Mayweather, of that I'm sure.

Does Trinidad fight the right fight? Does he suffer a virus that leaves him physically drained leading up to the fight?

We have to take these things into consideration.

Thanks. This is what I was looking for...someone to build a case for Tito, who in fairness was a very capable welterweight and who only ever lost to bigger men.

Only a handfull of fighters in history would beat Montreal Duran if that and the flawed very predictable one dimensional Trinidad certainly wasnt one of them.

    1) You do know that styles make fights, right? Ray's speed and movement would be all but impossible for Tito to overcome. He would have more of a chance against Duran, who would take the fight right to him and not be nearly as hard to find.

    2) Never said that Tito *would* beat Duran. Just seems silly that people are pretending he wouldn't have a real chance.

    3) Montreal was a toss-up. I'm in the minority in that I had SRL edging out a slight victory; the judges had Duran winning by the slightest of margins. Weird that so many Duran fans here seem to think that Duran "dominated," "destroyed," or "owned" Ray, etc.
