Translates to kevin was caught out talking bollox, so thought he would try diversionary tactics. You are actually quite a sad little cretin aren't you, even to the point of trying to discredit another poster by accusing him of writing something he didn't.

Why don't you just get lost and leave the boxing to the big boys.:hi:

As far as fools go, you are in the super league I'll give you that.

Even your own cut and paste job came back to bite you in the bollox.
Moving side to side is NOT running like you have been claiming Leonard ALWAYS did.

What Kurupt, Vanboxing and I have been telling you is Duran didn't let Leonard move side to side, which is why for the 2nd fight they changed tactics AND FLAT OUT RAN.

    Geddit?:patsch

I admire your passion! One day, when you rewatch these fights with a level head, you and I will be able to have a decent discussion about them. Until then, you can keep typing all the tired, ridiculous hyperbole and folklore you want but I can't promise that I'll read or respond to any more of it. :hi:

Good, because I am quite happy to see the back of the drivel you post.

Other than that post the full fights of

    Leonard v Benitez

    Leonard v Hearns

    Leonard v Green

    Leonard v Kalule

and of course, our old favourite

    Leonard v Duran 1

That way we can all laugh at your ridiculous claim he fought the first 4 totally differently to the way he fought the 5th one in the list. ( Other than losing of course )

My guess is you would only want to post Duran 2 and Hagler. Hmm:think

I thought there were close rounds but in no way did I view Leonard the winner in the fight, nor was he close to BEING the winner, not when he was clearly staggered in three separate rounds.

I hate to think what Duran would've done had he been years younger and a natural 147 pounder

I'm really getting embarrassed for you. Have you actually watched these fights?? :huh Very quick, easy homework assignment for you:
    1) Watch the first round or two of the Davey Green and Hearns fights. If you can recognize that Leonard circles, backs up, and even back-pedals more in the first few minutes of those fights than in the entire Duran I fight, then the assignment is over (skip #2)

    2) Otherwise, you should then watch the beginning of Duran-Leonard I. If you do this and still don't see that Ray Leonard has decided to fight a very, very different style of fight from the very beginning, even before Duran got to impose his incredible mobility-preventing superpowers (the ones that must not have worked against Vilomar Fernandez, btw), then you are simply too biased to talk about these fights in a rational manner.

Good luck with the assignment! :good

Post the fights you Moron or stop lying. It is not an Einstein type challenge. You are a LIAR, who simply doesn't have the courage of his convictions.

You claim nonsensical lies and garbage about the Leonard v Duran 1 fight. And like all natural liars ,and idiots, you have less than nothing to back up your garbage claims.

There is nothing irrational about me believing that as a fighter Leonard is not fit to carry Duran's dirty shorts. You may, or may not agree with me, I honestly don't give a fukk, but there is NOTHING irrational about my opinion.

Like I say, post the clips of this hit and run Leonard or stop telling lies.

I believe I am A BETTER LIAR THAN YOU. So I am inviting you to Muhammad Ali's 74th birthday party in January 2016 in my back garden, and make sure you bring every single member of your family too.

All expenses will be paid. Honest, I wouldn't lie.:nut:nut:nut:roll:

Lets talk percentages. ( or numbers if percentages are too difficult for you to comprehend ) YOU are in a very small minority ( even more stupid than you ) that is stupid enough to claim Leonard CHOSE to fight Duran in a way that was detrimental to his way of fighting.

Are you now claiming Leonard is / was a halfwit? I only ask because if you do believe such sh it, you will be the first, the last, the EVERYTHING.

    Lie #1

" Leonard ran, circled and back peddled for the first 5 rounds against Tommy Hearns."

    FACT.

Leonard sat down on his punches and stood his ground in round 3, and at the end of it raised his arms aloft to claim he won the round, which 2 of the 3 judges concurred with.

We'll get round to the other lies as soon as you try to wriggle and squirm your way out of that one.

I'm utterly convinced you can't tell how SRL fights and the difference between the fighters he faced and duran. The key thing you're missing in everything is how Duran FOUGHT SRL compared to the others. It's the elephant in the room you keep on walking in and missing. Well that, and not being able to recognize how SRL usually fought, and how similar it really is.

All the fights you mention you should honestly try and watch them instead of talking about them like you have. It's hilarious to me that you name the Hearns fight as a fight where SRL used movement, when in fact he won that fight by walking down Hearns. I mean that is the fight you list. Even in the opening rounds he wasn't fighting like he did in Duran No. 2. He tried movement more in the start and it was failing so he switched.

Against W.B. he TRIED to fight exactly how he wanted to fight Duran. Using the center of the ring to try and outbox W.B. while using lateral movement. He tried the same thing against Duran but it was Roberto who wasn't content to circle with SRL like W.B. Duran wasn't just content to circle and box like Hearns and W.B. they both felt they were better on the outside against SRL... Duran didn't let the fight play out that way. He attacked.. he feinted.. he roughed him up. You're not understanding that SRL tried to fight how he fought all the best guys, but Duran was just better that night.

Do you honestly believe SRL fought more like he did against Duran No. 2 or how he fought in Duran No. 1? I'm honestly curious. I feel he fought more like No. 2.. well then I'll just instruct you to watch more of his fight because that couldn't be further from the truth.

SRL always felt like he was the physically more gifted fighter and could be the boxer puncher with lateral movement and would always come out on top. That's how he fought. That's how he won. He didn't win by fighting like he did in Duran no. 2... That was really more running than fighting. That plain wasn't his normal style.

In the end you just can't seem to see that Duran is the one that alternate Srl normal movement, not SRL choosing not to fight like normal. He did try and be the boxer puncher with movement who uses his physical gifts to win. Duran was having none of it. He was on him like white on rice from the jump. Once Duran hurt SRL.. That was game over. The feints then just keep SRL even more of balance. Duran later on was content to circle and fight SRL because of the success his feints were having BECAUSE he hurt SRL early. It's unbelievable that you claim to have watch the fist fight and never noticed them circling and fighting at various stages of the fight. I honestly think you haven't seen the fight in a long time or need some vision enhancements. I say that because you had SRL winning. That's just tough to do unless you are missing the action

    Here's an ESPN article on Leonard/Duran I.

Rather Duran forced Leonard to fight his fight, or Sugar Ray had a bad strategy, the facts point to it being an extremely close fight. In the rematch, Leonard was able to fight on his terms and embarrassed Duran, who quit.

The bottom line is, I think, that if you ask the average boxing fan, more would probably remember Duran quitting in disgrace in the rematch, than Duran eking out a decision in the first fight.

You can make all the excuses in the world for Duran, but he did the unthinkable in the Leonard rematch and it irreversibly scars his legacy. He did have some moments of redemption against Hagler, Moore and Barkley. But, sadly, mention his name to the average sports fan, and they will first remember his surrender in the second Leonard fight.

    Anyway, here's the story regarding Duran/Leonard I

During the pre-fight press conference, Duran repeatedly insulted Leonard to get under his skin. This prompted Leonard to tell the media he would “kill” Duran during their fight.

    The fight

    Leonard against the ropes

    Rounds

    1-8 Time on ropes 4:02 9-15 2:54
    1-8 Avg. time per round :30 9-15 :25

    Punches absorbed on ropes

    1-8: 92 9-15: 65

Angelo Dundee, Leonard’s trainer, advised his fighter to box smart against Duran. Leonard, known for his quick movements and boxing prowess, elected to fight toe-to-toe with Duran, but that favored the Panamanian bruiser. In the early rounds of the fight, Duran repeatedly cornered Leonard and forced him into the ropes. Duran punished Leonard with body shots and appeared to be in control through the first half of the bout.

The tide slowly turned for Leonard around the 10th round, as he began to fight closer to his natural style and fatigue set in for Duran. The next round, however, Leonard again retreated to the corners and spent more than half the round on the ropes. The last three rounds were a slugfest in which both fighters landed hard shots, but neither fighter gave in. The post-fight decision left confusion because of a judge’s scoring error, but Duran won by unanimous decision 145-144, 148-147, 146-144.

    The numbers

    Punch stats: Leonard-Duran I

    Punches

    Landed Leonard 273 Duran 315*
    Thrown Leonard 753 Duran 898
Percent Landed Leonard 36 Duran 35

    *93% were power punches (292)
    -- Courtesy of CompuBox

Duran was the aggressor early and often during the fight. He consistently cornered Leonard and kept him on the ropes, landing power shots while his opponent was stagnant. Leonard averaged five fewer jabs (three) per round in this fight than in his 16 other fights tracked by CompuBox.

Leonard made adjustments later in the fight, but Duran had built a large lead early. At one point in the third round, Leonard was on the ropes for 30 seconds and took 17 punches.

    The aftermath

The loss was the first of Leonard’s career and a defining moment. Leonard gained some respect for his will to fight in Duran’s style, but he also lost because he fought to the strength of his opponent. On the flip side, it was arguably the biggest win of Duran’s storied career. The fight was one of the many battles between the top fighters of the era (Duran, Leonard, Hearns, Hagler). Duran and Leonard would go on to fight two more times, once in November 1980 and again in December 1989.

Most of what you've written was irrelevant to my post (which was in response to foxy's) but I've quoted the relevant part where you're most mistaken. [You guys are making different, at times contradictory arguments, so I can't address them all at once] Listen, you guys can repeat this fairy tale over and over again but it doesn't make it any less false. When's the last time you actually watched the fight (and not just highlights or your favorite parts?) If you think that you can be open-minded, go back and watch the beginning of the fight again. You'll see that this crazy story about Leonard trying to use lateral movement and being stopped is just a preposterous misinterpretation of the action. Even before "Duran was on him like white on rice" Leonard made no real effort to use his legs. He was clearly moving forward and trying to walk through Duran. As I explained in my earlier post, that is very, very different than how he started his fights against guys like Hearns or Davey Green (two of Foxy's examples). Do you really disagree with any of this?? If so, you should consider doing the "assignment" I posted for Foxy. You'll be surprised by what you see.

If Leonard wanted to move his legs, Duran wouldn't have been able to stop him. Period.

    You never answered my question

    1. Did SRL fight more often like he did in Duran 1 or Duran 2? It's a simple question. You seemed to be working under the pretense that he fought more like 2... and that couldn't be further from the truth.

    2. Then using your faulty premise and conclusion you then moved the goalpost and disagreed that Duran took away SRL of No. 2 movement away... WTF?? How could Duran take away movement that SRL never tried? That is beyond a silly stance to take and automatically debunks your whole premise.

All we've ever claimed in that Duran took away SRL typical movement with his own movement among other things. I find it Ironic that you listed Hearns as a fight where SRL uses movement. You list a fighti in which SRL WALKED DOWN Hearns just as he attempted to do to Duran at various stages. That is how SRL beat Hearns. Yet you list this as a fight where SRL used his legs to avoid confrontations? Odd, very odd indeed.

Are you actually claiming at NO point in the SRl vs. Duran No. 1.. did SRL try and circle and box Duran... Which BTW is how SRL typically fights. Are you saying he never did this against Duran in their first fight? If so, then I'll know you never actually watched the fight.

    "Rematches mean nothing."

"Duran proved he was better overall."

    Log off, old man.
