Trinidad vs Hearns at 147

I disagree. Hearns chin was just fine below 160 pounds. Who hurt Hearns below middleweight with the exception of SRL?

trinidads aggression would just walk him into the shots. trinidads success is his exceptional technique, economy and poise with a slugger brawler attitude to fighting. but hearns is far better in all areas.

 

lol it's strange because i think his chin improved over 160. could get into a war or 2 and still stand there. agaisnt leonard whenever ray caught up to him he looked soooo fragile.

Hearns. He'd use his much better speed and jab to set Tito up then knock him out.

At 147, I absolutely disagree.

 

I don't think Tito had a better chin than Tommy Hearns. Hearns took big punches when he had to, but left himself open when he was bombing away. Tito did not face the punchers Hearns did.

 

the thing about this fight is that both are matched well, but Hearns was faster and Hearns had the right hand. Tito would have a harder time avoiding Hearns right hand than Hearns avoiding Tito's left hook. If Hearns fought his fight by jabbing and setting up the right hand he wins this fight early.

 

Tito always has a punchers chance but youve got to heavily favour hearns

 

The only chance Tito has is if Hearns isn't in boxing mode... If Hearns wants to stand still and bang it out, Tito's chances increase. If Hearns decides he wants to move and box, Hearns has zero chance. Zero.

And talking about chins, Hearns was fairly durable at welter, and Tito regularly got dropped early. To his credit, he got up and whipped the guy's ass that did it, but we're talking about Hearns- a great finisher. If Tito goes down early, Hearns will probably send him down again and get it over with.

Hearns was stopped against Leonard from both exhaustion and getting caught with a good shot. If Trinidad can spoil and put the pressure on until Hearns wilts, more power to him, but I can't see that.

 

You would have to be licking poisonous frogs and toads for most of your formative years to favor Trinidad over Tommy Hearns.

 

Tito Trinidad typically gets sold short in this match up and undeservedly so.

He was at some point being compared to Sugar Ray Robinson after he stopped William Joppy. This was a guy who was expected to dominate Bernard Hopkins and the rest of top contenders at 160 and afterwards move up to 168 to fight Roy Jones Jr. He may have appeared to be a simple but he had underrated handspeed his power speaks for itself and he was a little more fluid in his combinations than Hearns.

Cuevas may have been a great fighter but he's no Tito Trinidad. And I think that will be the reason why the fight looks nothing like the Hearns Cuevas fight.

At 154 Trinidad looks alot better. But this is 147.

While I favor Hearns, I'm going with a contrarian pick and put my chips behind Trinidad for the upset. By Stoppage.
