Trinidad vs Margo @ 162lbs who wins ?

What would you have called me if I proposed Cotto fight Hopkins at 162 before we saw how he lost to Margarito?

Calzaghe is also slightly past it, but RJJ is REALLY past it.

He has no shot at beating Calzaghe in my mind. Roy is not ready for the type of broken, ugly fight Calzaghe will present. And he won't have a speed advantage to nullify that ugly style. Last ditch effort for Roy, but he's done.

 

I say Tito wins this one by brain damaging Ko. Margo gets knocked down at least 3 times before getting Ko'd. Margo is to hittable.Tito is faster, a better boxer and has more power. Margo won't back up Tito. Tito will gladly stand with him shoulder to shoulder and use his elbow to lift his chin and unload straight rights followed by left hooks.

 

Exactly, RJJ even though he won the first Tarver fight, got a huge ass kick and didn't even inflict one on Tarver.

Calzaghe is much better than Tarver, throws more punches and from more angles. RJJ is toast.

 

Cotto is thick, he is just short. He weighed in at 157 against Corley about 3 years ago.

Tyson was short too, but he was thick.

Now, what would you say, Pavlik vs Cotto at 162. Why not.

 

Hopkins isn't a big puncher either though. He lands sometimes flush and gets those flash knockdowns but his power is nothing to write home about.

Infact it took many rounds for Hopkins to beat on Trinidad for it to happen. And that was the only way it'd happen. Trinidad has been visibly shaken by Vargas and DLH. And also against Campas.

Mind you, this is the prime version we are talking about. NOT today's watered-down version. I am absolutely positive that a prime Margarito thrashes him. Upstairs, downstairs, relentless pressure and power on every shot. Margarito is like Campas 2.0. Keep that in mind.

 

It's not an important fight for Margarito. Trinidad is way past it and he wouldn't mean anything on Margarito's resume. Margarito needs guys in their prime, hovering around that welter limit.

 

How about Kelly Pavlik vs. Antonio Margarito at middleweight? Who wins that in your opinion? For me, I take Kelly Pavlik because finally Margo will find someone who will take his power, dish it back, and could actually dent him.

 

Sure but what does that have to do with the context? Pavlik would smash Trinidad as well!

I love how everyone wants Margarito to jump to middle when it's full of guys who are 10-15lbs over his fighting weight. It's not like Cotto didn't weigh close to 160lbs himself. Ditto for Clottey and Williams and Cintron.

You want to make size an issue where it clearly wasn't before. Unfair imo.
