In his weight class? I've got to say, he squeezed an ungodly amount of quality fights into his career. Do you rank him at all in a P4P sense, or is he just not deserving of that? How's his power? Who's is comparable to historically?
I wouldn't say Tito had THAT many quality fights in his career. Before 1999, most of his WW reign was against pretty weak opposition. Carr and Campas were the best 2 guys he faced prior to 99'. Don King had him under wraps for awhile. Tito had a long reign as WW champ. It's a little hard to compare since he did it in an era with more champs. WW was a great division in the late 90s, unfortunately no one really established themselves as the best. Too many controversial decisions. Tito may still make top 10 all-time WW. He had only 4 fights @ 154, 3 of them title fights and 2 against undefeated titlists though. I'm not sure where he ranks historically there, but he was pretty damn good.
I agree. he had a very long reing at W, but his best moments were above that weight class. He was a monster @ 147 though...
The guy was a monstrous two-fisted puncher who was really fun to watch and afraid of NO ONE. He had some wonderful fights and was a fan favorite. You could deck him, but generally he got right back up and knocked you out. Victories over Whitaker, Stephens, Carr, Leushing, Campas, Blocker, Waters, Vargas, Joppy, David Reid, etc. I can go on and on. I never saw anyone outfight him. He was vulnerable to defensive specialists though - plodding performance against ODH, owned by B-Hop, horrid performance against Wright. But in his prime from 147-154 he was a monster and in a 15 round fight my money would be on him against most anyone.
