It was just as big of a deal at the time, but it fizzed out over a year or two. It was huge question mark at the time and guys like Vargas and Reid made big deals after the match that they had never been hit so hard and fans complained Tito should be banned, esp for ruining those guys careers. That was back on secondsout.com before they revamped the website. For a little while they didn't have a forum and now it's pretty dead.

What Margarito did was definitely worse. Tito's corner used the wraps given to them in an illegal way, but Margarito's corner added a stiff knuckle pad.

 

Thats not true, Trinidad had tape directly over the skin, which is illegal in NY but legal in most states... that was rather more mental games than anything Naz didnt have to make an issue out of it but did so to get in the mind of Tito...

 

Papa Trinidad said that the way he wrapped Tito's hands actually increased the power in the punches.

 

First off, it was Bouie Fischer who demanded the hands re-wrapped...The left hand was wrapped before Fischer was in the dressing room.

Secondly, if it was JUST to play mind games, why is it that Hopkins, Richardson, and Fischer still stood by their argument, that it was cheating, that it was cast-like, that it was like getting hit by a baseball bat, months after the fight????

Why is it that many professionals in the sport knew things, regarding the way Trinidad wrapped his sons hands, including Rahman?

 

Yep. He also said he'd always wrapped his hands that (illegal) way.

 

What makes it all worse is that they dont test after the fight.
If you plaster it will harden and when they remove the gloves you can tell 100%.
Also shouldn't the governing bodies have someone watching
who knows the specific regulations and how to's. Like you can use this much or less of wrap.

 

Tito was made to remove his glove and the prior wrapping in front of Hopkins representative Naazim Richardson who noticed that the wrap looked very thick and when he felt it he says it was as hard as a rock. All the sudden it became very clear why they had tried to get away with wrapping the left hand without anyone from the Hopkins camp watching and also why they didn't want to remove it and rewrap the hand.
Don Felix began to rewrap the hand again, but Richardson noticed that Don Felix was putting layers of tape and then gauze, tape and then gauze, tape and then gauze which is not in accordance with NYSAC rules. The rules stipulate tape cannot be applied directly over the knuckles, and that repeating the process several times (is not permitted).
In an interview with Bernard Fernandez of Philly.com, Hopkins said, "If you put on tape, then gauze, then tape, then gauze, it's like a [plaster] cast. It's like being hit with a baseball bat. I'm giving out some secrets here, but you can dip your hands in ice water and that tape will, like, marinate and become harder. But it's only cheating if you get caught

 

Tito's left glove was already on before members from Hopkins' camp arrived.

This naturally raised suspicion.

Tito was forced by officials to remove the glove..this revealed ALL KINDS OF ILLEGAL ****.

Not only did Tito have tape directly on his skin...

He had what was described as a CAST made from alternating layers of COMPRESSED tape and guaze.:deal

This is usually dipped in ice water to HARDEN.
