He held 3 different weight class titles in his country, who might have beaten a great alltime World Champ if a tragic event had not occured...
Possibly the best fighter his counbtry ever produced...

A tko for you. Yes the great Dave Sands who was an Australian champion in the MW LH HW division whilst truly a middleweight...Sands kod 62 oif 97 wins, and was on the way to a title shot after whipping the up and coming Bobo Olson,a fight I saw on early television in 1952...Sands looked terrific
winning the fight and drew high praise from Ray Robinson himself...Not long after Dave Sands was killed in 1952 at age 26 when his truck rolled over him...A boxing tragedy, for Dave Sands might have beaten Ray Robinson at MW...
P.S. you can see Dave Sands vs Bobo Olson on youtube ....Classy fighter
who would be easily MW champ today...

There were I think 5 fighting Sands brothers although none came close to Dave in ability. The others were smaller fellas fighting from featherweight to about welter and a few fought to Australian title standard. The Sands name continued well into the 80's as a nephew of one of the brothers had a decent pro career....Russell Sands was his name. Russell won the Oz welter and lightmiddle titles during his career. He was killed in a motorbike accident in the mid 80's. They didn't have too much luck

Sands was the family fighting name, their surname was Ritchie. They came from extreme poverty and I think the Sands name came from one of the brothers being regularly given free train rides by a stationmaster named Sands who was sympathetic to the family's financial situation. They all took his surname during their careers

I would have guessed Les Darcy. Seems like Australian boxers have no luck. Although I think he won a world championship?
