    dinovelvet,

    Again, I respect your opinion.

I don't believe GG did really want it. But again, despite what Hunter has said, I don't think Ward really did, and I don't think he was in any position to have taken it.

I think GG was trying his luck. But in my opinion, I don't think we'd have seen the fight even if Ward had agreed. It would have been extremely difficult to have put the two fighters together when one had been inactive and the other one had new doors opening for him at MW.

When GG only had one belt, he'd got an eye on SMW. He was open to moving up for the right opportunity. But as soon as things developed at MW, he cooled off. All the talk of Ward, Froch and Chavez, was before he was in line to face the winner of Canelo-Cotto and before he had the opportunity to fight Lemieux for the IBF. His circumstances have changed drastically over the last few years. Now he's gotten 3 of the 4 MW belts, he's since confirmed that he'll only move up to SMW after he's obtained all of them. From late last year, he's been in a position where he's had a lot more to lose. Also, he now has mandatory obligations from 3 of the main Org's. So he's got a lot less freedom than what he had a few years ago.

    Basically:

By the time Ward had been in a position to have fought him after at least one tune up, GG would have had too much to lose at MW by accepting it.

That's my honest opinion. Both guys were moving in different directions.

Again, HBO would also have wanted it to have built up.

I just believe the timing was all wrong.

Again, I don't think Ward would have taken it without at least a tune up. Again, by that time, GG would have had 2 MW belts and been in line to fight for the lineal. It wouldn't have been in his best interests to have taken it.

I know Ward has a huge ego and he'd have been confident of beating GG, but I just refuse to believe that he wouldn't have wanted at least one fight beforehand due to his inactivity. He's wanted two tune ups for Kovalev after being out for 9 months then a further 5, so it's only logical to think he'd have needed them after 19 months out, especially if it'd been at a weight he hadn't made for over 2 years.

Again, I don't agree. I can agree that he never pursued it, but again, I refuse to believe that Ward definitely wanted it and he was there just waiting for him. I don't buy it at all.

I agree, but it's hindsight. Again, Eubank was his initial target. I don't view him as taking Brook over Lara. I see it as though he took Eubank over Lara, but then he accepted Brook due to circumstances.

Again, I respect your opinion. But for me, although it's a disappointing fight, the circumstances are very different to Canelo-Khan.

Canelo asked for a voluntarily to fight Khan, leading everyone to believe that he and his team would gladly negotiate for a huge unification afterwards. But we now know it was all BS.

Again, GG signed to fight Eubank, but ended up signing Brook because Eubank Snr's ego went into overdrive and the offer was too good to turn down, especially as they were under time constraints to satisfy HBO.

Loudon , good points mate, but i subscribe to a different line of thinking .

At 33 with no good wins on his record, there was no better time for GGG . The Timing was perfect imo.

To quote the great Ali -

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life

GG didn't take the risk. Therefor I don't believe he should be excused form fighting Brook .

    That's fair enough mate.

We've just got to hope that he can be involved in some good match ups before he hangs up the gloves.

We'll just have to wait and see how things play out.

I haven't completely given up on a GG-Ward fight yet.
