Who do you want him to fight then? Of the consensus top 10 middleweights, Rubio's the only guy who definitely wants to fight Golovkin. Hopefully that one'll happen sometime in the summer.
Has Rubio said he'd fight GGG? I hadn't heard about that but I wouldn't mind it. You got a link or anything? Still, the moment he was announced as an opponent you'd get people saying he was just a can who got beat by Junior and Ouma (hell, even KOd by Roman who Stevens put away in a round).
I hear this a lot, but in reality the division has a talent distribution much like any other - a coupla top guys then a number who're good but on roughly equal footing. When MWs fight in the adjancent divisions (or vice versa) they tend to do about as well as their rankings would suggest, which implies that it's not somehow anomalous - if it were you'd expect that to be taken advantage of by the J/SMWs looking to make a name for themselves.
I don't agree at all I think MW is a very weak division GGG is really in a lose- lose situation until Martinez retires or fights him
Thre was a thread on here last year about which were the strongest and weakest divisions also another similar one on 'scene I think a few months earlier. MW didn't even get a mention as the weakest and many people thought it was one of the strongest. Strange how perceptions change. Shame there wasn't a poll attached. Might be worth reviving it or starting a new one with a poll.:think Anyway, I stand by my judgement - certainly H2H I see no reason to think that 160 is significantly worse that the surrounding divisions, although outside of Maravilla, GGG himself and perhaps Sturm it is lacking in marquee names. 18 months ago prior to Maravilla - JCC jr, no one was saying the division was weak, Macklin was considered a top contender and GGG a kinda rumoured boogeyman who no-one knew much about. Since then admittedly Pirog has vanished and JCC moved up, but that aside realistically not much has changed.
The problem is that there are 2-3 top guys in the division and the rest are tomato cans. When these 2-3 guys are refusing to fight you, you are in a lose-lose situation. You have to fight tomato cans to keep busy (some of those tomato cans are in the top 10 but they are considered tomato cans regardless) and hope that one of those 2-3 top guys grows some balls to fight you.
I've given sturm a good pasting today, so maybe I should lay off him have to admit, hes my 'pet example' when it comes to illustrating how paper champions can monopolize a belt.... I think you mentioning sturm as a 'marquee name' has more to do with him being around so long more than anything. certainly not his achievements during the Hopkins, pavlik, taylor, Martinez era, sturm was exactly where he is today, but never scored a mention on an international boxing forum
GGG is just this year's Lucien Bute. Won't be long until this site is no longer cranking out threads about him. Remember, just a few years ago every other thread was about Bute's uppercut (where was it against Pascal?), and how he was locked out of the Super6 tournament? LOL!
GGG number one dickrider right here. I never seen someone get as emotionally involved in a fighter as u. nvm, i'll let u get back to worshipping ur GGG shrine.
Really dumb. So every guy with outsized hype is Bute now? Was Broner Bute v2? How about Rigo, before Donaire he had a meager resume, yet many posters thought he'd beat Donaire. He also must have been the next Bute, right?
I am a Golovkin fan, but I also believe Ouma was ahead by a round when the fight was stopped. For most of the fight GGG was outworked and outboxed. But his power shots were breaking down a very tough Ouma slowly but surely, and by the ninth round Ouma was hurt and it was clear the stoppage was coming. The clash of styles reminded me of Chavez-Taylor. Other guys had an easier time with Ouma because they just boxed him. But GGG's style, as he says, is "predator style". He comes forward looking to land his power shots, so he can be outboxed and outworked. But he is also the only guy who ever stopped Ouma, other than a stoppage many years ago in one of Ouma's first pro fights, an early 4-rounder.
