I think Manfred is broken. He doesn't seem to be able to tell the difference between the actual WBA champion and the guy the WBA have sold a phoney belt. The funny thing is that Jacobs knows this but poor old Manfred doesn't. He doesn't remember the Wlad Povetkin fight and that Pov was treated like a contender by the WBA.

 

Garcia was undisputed most recently , he never held the WBO. Very few undisputed champs ever held the WBO.

 

I just don't see any difference between "WBA Regular" and "WBC Silver". Just fancy names for the mandatory position to collect sanctioning fees.

This makes no sence if ggg can sell it out without Jacob's being there then what exactly does Jacobs bring to the fight? He did not sell out his fights in the arena only 300k watched his fight against quillian... if quill Ian cannot sell out an arena how would most people be there for him.

 

He was when he beat Matthyse at the end of 2013. Lamont who held the IBF title just got knocked out by Matthyse in 3 rounds at a 141 pound catch weight and Garcia vs Matthyse was scheduled right after to determine who was the best fighter at Junior Welterweight.

Bradley had just moved up to WW 2 years before and Marquez(who only had 1 fight at JWW) got the vacant title soon after without ever defending it and the title became vacant again. Alvarado then became interim champion with his win over Brandon Rios(a lightweight at the time) and then he fought Ruslan Provo for the title, after Provo's FOTY loss at WW to Tim Bradley.

Garcia beat the top 3 and Ruslan or Alvarado didn't do enough except fight each other to make a claim. If Garcia wasn't the undisputed champion at the 2013 despite beating the top 3 fighters in his weight class in a row, then nobody is.

 

You become the undisputed champ by holding all the belts of the 4 governing bodies. Not beating the top guys.

 

You become undisputed champion once you've beaten every person with a claim in that weight class. Joe Calzaghe became undisputed after Kessler, Hopkins after Trinidad, Whitaker after Nazario, Spinks after Mayorga, Tyson after Spinks, Wright after Mosley, Zoo after Judah, and Lewis after Holyfield.

That's not the definition of undisputed, that's the definition of dominant.

You listed Danny Garcia. He was not undisputed. The last fighter to become undisputed in the LWW division was Tszyu. We weren't talking about Garcia anyway. We were talking about GGG. There hasn't been an undisputed champ since Hagler who hasn't held the WBO title.

 

And I'm saying Danny had a very good case for being undisputed after the Matthyse bout at the end of 2013. There was no one else in the division with a claim, Alvarado was splitting wins with a Lightweight in Rios and Provo had done absolutely nothing of note before the Alvarado bout except lose to Bradley at 147 in the FOTY. You clearly mentioned Garcia, don't care what you were talking about before, I responded to a post you wrote.

What do you mean there hasn't been an undisputed champ since Hagler who hasn't held the WBO title? Do you mean at Middleweight or throughout all the weight classes, because you're wrong on both counts. Hopkins became undisputed after Trinidad at MW and there have been numerous fighters holding the distinction of undisputed without all 4 belts. Only Hopkins and Taylor held all 4 belts simultaneously since the creation of the WBO in 1988.

 

At Middleweight Hopkins and Taylor held all 4 titles. Your right about Hopkins after Trinidad. My mistake. I don't consider Golovkin undisputed simply because he was just given the wbc title and didn't fight anybody for it.
