Showtime did exxagerate a bit Trout controlling rounds. I dont think either fighter was controlling long stretches of anything. The Showtime crew was overcrediting Trouts jab, which I felt was'nt strong enough to be effective. Trouts jab turned out to be pesky and bothersome, only enough mustard to keep Canelo honest, but Trout certainly was'nt landing it hard and effective as Showtime would allude to. Got to give Showtime credit though, though they overcredited Trout verbally, they did have Canelo winning a close fight. They certainly got that part of it right.
DIVAC,i usually agree with your comments in the pass but here i have to disagree. theres 4 criteria's judges learn to score fights. 1 is defense and another is affective aggresion . if trout throws 7 jabs and they all miss,who scores? canelo would score for making trout miss because trout's aggresion is not effective. (sorry for spelling,lol)
This is why is said that I liked Trout. He's a man who accepts defeat while his ignorant fans disagree with him ha. Unbelievable.
It's a strange fight to analyze. I never expected Canelo to fight in this manner. I said it before, Canelo throws an average over 600 punches per fight. He only threw 400 in this fight but It was clear he was more dedicated to defending. I think he could have, and should have been more aggressive but I still think he clearly won. Not by a landslide like some of the ******ed judges had it but similar to the way you scored it. Canelo must of thought he was winning comfortably because he seemed comfortable with his output.
Agreed! Yesterday's fight however had Trout at least landing partially his jabs. Trout scored with very few head snapping jabs, but he at least scored with alot of partial jabs that got through. I score that over a fighter that although slippery, does'nt look to mount much of anything. As a fight judge, you have to give the busy fighter credit for making the fight when the defensive one does'nt want to punch. Defense is a judging criteria, but its not the criteria to put the most emphasis on. If you're making him miss and making him pay, thats a different story, but Canelo was'nt doing that in the rounds I scored for Trout.
visibly, VISIBLY discouraged during the whole fight by how easily Caenlo was making him miss, I respect his class for admitting he was beaten, but his body language told the whole story during and after the fight close but pretty clear for Canelo
He definately gave up some rounds, but he was the man in control, and Trout knew it, I didn't need a post fight quote to tell that, when Canelo threw, he hurt him, and when he didn't he made Tout miss, all in all he did more than enough to win, and even Trout knew it
Canelo won on my card, but saying he was in control is overexaggerating the performance. I dont think Canelo was in control when Trout did a good job as a southpaw to take away Canelo's punching angles and made it extremely difficult for Canelo to get off. I give Canelo credit for remaining composed under the difficulties he was having against Trouts southpaw stance. I actually believe this fight with Trout will make Canelo a more mentally strong fighter. I think where a talented fighter like Zab Judah or Victor Ortiz would have fallen to pieces under those circumstances, Canelo withstood the tough challenge and did enough to win against a tough style matchup.
guy knew he was ****ed going in if he didn't thouroughly dominate....by the end he was so ****en distraught he would have said anything to bring some semblance of reality to what he saw going on all around him
I don't think so, you could tell Trout was shocked by his defensive skills, like everybody else who goes in there against him, of course Trout being the most esteemed fighter Canelo has fought, yet even he looked like a shaken man in between rounds seeing this guy EASILY slip his shots as he did, Trout after this fight said the same thing every other fighter has "I didn't expect him to be so good" Doesn't sound like a fighter who was expecting to win the fight to me, but then again, people said Alfonso Gomez gave him trouble like I said earlier, Canelo is a patient man, too patient in this fight IMO, but he was definately the superior fighter, Trout bodylanguagewise between rounds and after the fight looked like a man who was one step behind and had his confidence zapped by the man in front of him
I worry for Trout in the future, mentally he was outgunned and outclassed, even though it was a close fight, he looked like a flustered fighter post fight
Trout had painted a picture of Canelo coming at him guns blazing and giving him counter opportunities. He was'nt expecting Canelo to stand center ring and box with him. He did'nt think Canelo had that in him. Trout explained that he did'nt gameplan for that type of Canelo. There is not question in my mind that the scores being announced every few rounds effected Trouts performance and gameplan. Without open scoring, Trout may have stayed with the mindset of fighting off the backfoot and continue to pepper and bait Canelo, but because he know he was behind from the midpoint of the fight foward, that changed the whole landscape of how the fight unfolded and imo must have had Trout pressing to get to Canelo, while on the other hand Canelo was able to play defense freely knowing he was well ahead on the cards. I do think that open scoring effected the evolution of how the fight unfolded down the stretch. I think we would have seen a better fight by both had the fight been without it.
