Another stay busy fight this Saturday. An eight rounder against 21-11 Daniel Bispo. atsch When exactly is Ross planning to capitalize on his Contender championship by fighting a top ten Cruiserweight? It's barely the third best fight on the card at the Montreal Casino. Antonin Decarie vs. Shamone Alvarez and David Lemieux vs. Donny McCrary are both far more compelling and competitive match-ups...and neither looks particularly compelling or competitive.
I don't know whats going on. His promoters need to get it together and fast, there is absolutely no reason he shouldn't be fighting a top 10 guy right now. In fact a Ross-Flores fight would be one of the more exciting developments in the crusier division of recent. It just seems everything is stagnant in that division. I'm a fan of Ross, but he really needs to get it together, hopefully he can get another fight in before the year closes.
He was suppose to get a title shot earlier this year but there was some problems. I think the champion couldn't get into the USA for his training camp or something like that.
I was kinda pissed about the Bobby Gunn defense by Adamek - Ross seemed like a more deserving option (though I'm sure Tomaz didn't care for a southpaw if it wasn't mandated). He clearly has things going on outside boxing keeping him busy and his promoters don't seem to be doing their job.
Does anybody else feel horrible for this kid? I'd rather be promoted by Don King than the Tournament of Contenders. Oh wait, they're finally doling out a big break to Bika after three years of thumb-twiddling. Against Jesse Brinkley.
Yep. The Contender is horrible for a fighter's career it would seem. It looks like a great chance from the outside, they win it and gain exposure and it all goes to waste and they all end up dropping off the radar again back to where they started. Inflated ego's perhaps? I know Sergio Mora infamously turned down that shot at Taylor and the 160 crown, maybe these guys are getting carried away with what winning The Contender actually means and pricing themselves out of fights?
Thank the gods! Hopefully he's kept sharp and had good sparring, Cunningham is slick as an oil spill.
He's almost at a title shot ans just want to stay active without risking to much. But the major factor IMO ( i didn't read it anywhere this is just my opinion ) i think that GYM want to end it up with the contenders co-productions with them ( i think it was 3 fights ,tell me if i'm wrong .)
doesn't this always happen with contender contestants? after the show they have a loooong lay off or stupid stay busy fights because they are still under contract with the contender people?
on another note it doesn't seem like too many big fights are on the horizon at Cruiser. hopefully that will change yeah really, Bika's been quite inactive, but as someone below mentioned, I though he turned down Green and Brinkley might not be a great fight regarding quality opposition, but it is a title Eliminator on Friday night fights I believe giving both fighters more of a profile so to speak **but with Bute still IBF champ, not a great situation for Bika
