Mundine had won every round before Wood got a single punch through his defences. Mundine won the rematch easily knocking Wood down several times, lucky for Wood it was only a ten rounder. Fair to say Mundine has his measure. As for Geale being green he was 28yo and had a 21-0 record and won a world title (albiet against a very weak champ) just 4 fights later. W

Listen to the commentary on the Norris fight, they talk about Norris's pound for pound claims being dashed because he got knocked down by a fighter of Waters calibre or lack of calibre. i.e they don't rate Waters they think he's only mediocre, this is reflected in rings annual rankings, just the one year at tenth position, this makes him a fringe top tenner at best and a class below Mundine. Mundine wins the fight, Troy wins the beauty contest.

:huh You trying to tell me Mundine isn't a fringe contender? Go asked the general forum to rate their top 10 JMW and see where Mundine fits.

He'll be lucky to make anyones list.

Waters went 12rds for a majority loss to Simon Brown for the WBC title....... That's better credentials than Mundines has at the weight

Mundines only had 3 fights at light middle you can't compare an entire career with 3 fights. Mundine is 37yo and still a top 10 middleweight according to boxrec, in his prime he was world champion, Waters retired at 32 no world titles. You don't ask the general forum to rate Mundine because most people hate him and will say he's crap. You need to look at impartial experts like Ring magazine who have him #3 in the world for 4 years and Waters #10 for 1993 only. A prime Troy vs 37yo Choc at LMW a close fight, both fighters in their prime at MW Mundine wins by a shutout or late round KO.

no. waters had a great 'peek a boo' style defence. mundines speed would have largely been negated by this. waters himself had an excllent jab, as good as mundines. waters would have hunted mundine down, exposed his lack of endurance, and kod him late.

There was actual talk of them fighting early in Mundines career.... It was about 2yrs after Troys very last fight but the weight difference was the problem.

Mundine was at 168lbs and looking at a world title at that weight and Troy was only prepared to fight at middle at best. Actually Mundine around that time fought at LHW as well so was no chance in getting down to 160lbs so close after his league career had finished.

peek a boo defense are you referring to the way Troy would put his forearms in front of his face parallel and look through the gap while his opponent rains blows on his head, yes this would negate Mundines speed because if your letting your opponent smash you in the head as hard as he can it doesn't matter how fast he is. Mundines method of slick footwork moving the body and rolling the shoulders to avoid being hit is a much more effective method of defense. Troy by KO really? Mundines been KO"d twice in 50 fights both times by a solitary punch when he was ahead on points even when he lost to Kessler he won the early rounds and was outpointed by a better boxer but was never in danger of KO. Mundine in his prime fought the best in his weight class Ottke, Kessler, Echols and Green for a 2-2 record but he was never dominated never owned the way Waters was against Norris and Trinadad.

Norris and Trinidad [ melbourne cup class] , **** Ottke , Echols and Green lucky to beat the ballot for the Mount Isa cup . Cant knock Choc for what hes done but the Woods KO and struggling in the 2nd Woods fight till the 9th and 10 th rounds has severely dented his legacy. His two best nights in his career were Green and Echols and all the other fights he failed to forfill on the hype he sprouted. Waters would have a good chance against Choc.

Total crap buddy. Go take a look at boxrec. Plain fact is that Mundine won the fight fair and square. yes it was close like many fights, but Mundine beat him.

You can come back and talk about rematches being ordered and this and that, and the press bagging Mundine. But a rematch would have been big $ and IBO rather like that, and with Mundine he gets bad press no matter what.

Mundine won, Geale did not beat him.

Mate you have no idea, you have watched one Troy Waters fight (Norris) and think you have him worked out. Troys fight against Donny Beasley was a great high pressure fight that Mundine at 154lbs would have no chance in with either fighter.

Troy was damaged goods for Trindad fight, he was paid something like $500k and Don King liked Troy for his battles with Norris and Brown and gave him one last pay day against his up and comer tiger Trindad.

I had a lot to do with a bloke who was Troys personal trainer at the time and he was pretty much hanging the gloves up before the Trindad fight came up.... it was a money fight to cash out..... There was a rumour Troy actually backed himself to be KO'd but i won't go into that on a forum like this.

Troy had been fighting since he was 5yrs old and given the battles and the car accident was pretty much done by the age of 32yrs
