Can anyone summerise the sport of boxing on the most positive note possible?
This is for a good cause and I want to represent our sport in a great light, prove it has advantages and prove it is not a barbaric sport.

I'm lost for words looking at these comments about brain damage and such. Can anyone who has fantastic writing skills help me out please? Just to get the main points accross about why boxing is so amazing?

It's the best! I have just stumbled upon some infuriating comments about the sport being morally wrong and barbaric to the point I am so angry I can't even think straight.

what do you want me to say, champions are built from years of hard work and the ability to adapt in the heat of the moment is a mark of a good fighter.
many sports create injurys but most of them arent punching each other

what I mean is....boxing is not just 2 guys beating the **** out of each other. It can bring a kid from the street to the riches of the world. You get my drift? I'm just not great at summarising.

At it's highest level boxing is the culmination of (for most) a lifetime of work, these guys take a 2 minute walk to the ring, knowing everything I've worked for, everything I'm "about", everything I hope to do is about to either happen...or not happen. Most people don't have the luxury (I consider it a luxury) to ever be in a spot where you are literally "all in", and how I perform my job in the next hour is going to directly impact my life going forward. The mental toughness required to be a professional boxer is second to none in my opinion. It's mankind at it's absolute finest, "majestic"/"regal" champions, hungry up and coming challengers, laying in on the line...raw and uncut for the entire world to see.

In terms of the sport of boxing, it's no more violent than football, and the way referees, ringside doctors, and the respective corners of each fighter are all working to ensure the safety and betterment of each fighter (at least in theory) it is actually safer, IMO. Boxers generally speaking, have a bond and a respect for each other, and there's not really anything "brutal" about it. Sure if you boil it down to it's most vile, violent, and unfavorable core you can find instances of guys being shitty people, and not respecting the livlihood of the guy across the ring, but that's more the exception than the rule.

Boxing is the mold for modern day reality TV, which is why 24/7 and FC360 are successful, it's a natural transition. Fighters are typically "regular guys" who make it good, they are gifted and talented don't get me wrong, but they typically don't have pristine pasts, or the super strong upbringing, which adds another entertaining element. Boxing is full of characters, drama, and as powerful human beings doing what other thought they couldn't do.

It's like anything else, you go on a football field out of shape, ill prepared, and not mentally focused on the issues at hand...YOU WILL BE HURT BADLY. These are professionals, they know what they are doing, they know how to do it, some are able to handle the pressure of the stage, some aren't, but's it's facinating watching them try.

"Sometimes you read threads on ESB and it's too easy to get sucked into all the negativity about the sport such as negotiations, meaningless titles, bad decisions and so on, but, for all the frustration which comes along with it, I'm always proud to be a fan of the sport. I just watched a video with Michael Katsidis, who is the epitome of a warrior to me, where he said he comes to fight and would be prepared to be stretchered out of the ring - As brutal as this sport can be, the attitude fighters have will always keep passion inside me. For a while, I've been negative about the Klitschko's but I still respect them immensely and they're both terrific, world class fighters who us fans can be proud of seeing each time they step into the ring. It's a pleasure to watch Pacquiao, a fighter I genuinely think is one of the best of all-time, still active and seemingly close to his prime. As frustrating as he can be, watching Mayweather in the ring is a thing of beauty and his style defines the term "The Sweet Science". Proud warriors like Katsidis and Froch, immense punchers like Lemieux and JuanMa, flashy stylists like Gamboa and Martinez - These guys, for all their varying characters, qualities and talents, are the reason I love the sport.

**** the negativity. Boxing is, and always will be, the best sport in the world."

Intelligence, cunning, ferocity, blessings, discipline, training, friendship, charity, etc... It is all in Boxing.

Striving to... be the first to fertilize the egg, be born, cling to life as a baby, endure your first day of school, win your first race on the playground, get the best grade on a test, acquire a skill to feed yourself, thrive in life, accept your time on Earth is up and... Every day we face Challenge.

Boxing is just looking into the face of Challenge, accepting Challenge, and meeting Challenge with the confidence that your preparation has made you able to humbly accept the outcome. Sure there is a ref and rules there to keep an air of civility, but you are there to crush or be crushed by your opponent and show respect in victory or defeat after having done so. Every day we are humbled.

No matter if we are joyous or saddened by the outcome, humbly, we go back to the gym and prepare to rise once again to meet Challenge. We learn to accept and cherish the bumps and bruises we accumulate over the years. They make us... Us. We rise and rise again until we can rise no longer.

Once we can rise no more, we will sit on the sidelines and tell our great stories of triumph, defeat, and motivate the next generation to ready themselves and join the fray. So that they too can share the thrills, fears, and glory of facing Challenge and become wise. Because we know that the only thing worse than being taken from this Earth by Challenge too soon is to never have risen to face Challenge.

Through our time in the gym, ring, and being forced onto the sidelines we come to the realization... Boxing is The Essence. A person who has never Boxed? Doesn't understand The Essence... of Life.

I honestly believe that ish man. Boxing is The Essence.

You can take ANYTHING and relate it to Boxing in a meaningful way. Anything. When you actually square up with a guy? You realize how real every moment on this Earth is.

I don't care if you only take it as far your "Gym Wars". If you haven't Boxed (or any other type of fighting)? You don't know crap.
