Yeah i think that was my card at the time, didn't feel Oscar's work was goo enough down the straight. Might be time for me to have a watch myself after work tomorrow. Few ribs on the barby :yep
i remember watching it and thought it was pretty close.mayweather by 2 rounds i think i thought at the time but a great fight especially last few rounds
Floyd is a strange fighter, in the sense that he has remained unbeaten for 16 years which sounds amazing but alot of his top levels wins, are by a few rounds or winning via decision which isnt bad but dosent qualify as amazing. His biggest commodity is that 43-0 along with saying im a 5 weight champ...sounds and looks good.
to be honest i thought Lewis won the first fight with holy easy, and lost the second, close but i think Holy won the second fight as for Floyd he is the greatest fighter for a long time, we will all miss him when he is gone, he is just great
Holyfield is amazing though, he won that fight against Valuev....get easily outboxed by Lewis one of the most amazing heavies ever, then does better enough for people to think he won the rematch. If he fought Bowe again he would have leveled it 2 a piece, he was that sort of fighter.
A very old ESB thread from back in the day here mate http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-234269.html Allegedly some had it 6-4 in rounds to Lowry
Do you also count the 'amateur' fights he had after his pro debut? Chavez infamously had that DQ loss early in his career overturned. 88-1 is mighty pretty, but not the same as 89-0...
I didn't miss him at all when he first retired and I have never enjoyed boxing more than I did while he was gone.
Some fighters main calling points are there records rather than performances, i wonder if Rocky would be considered different if he were 47-1-1 rather than 49-0 considering nothing changes from his performances except the judges scored it correctly.
Marciano had many excellent feats to his name, one of which was his record. Excellent unbeaten fighters, have the '0' as an extra bonus. I know injury was a lot to blame, but Joe Mesi would be an example of what you talk of, as would a Jemal Hinton. Fighters who will 'just' be remembered by the majority of fans for retiring unbeaten.
