Average is a fair classification I think. He hasn't shown anything that would make me think his chin is worse than average. The punches he took throughout the Maidana fight would have stopped a poor chin imo:good

I don't quite understand it.

I can't see how 'the basics' can suddenly change the way you take punches.

From being knocked down by the lightest of punchers, Willie Limond, to taking right hands from Maidana & Judah.

I think it's all down to overall conditioning and health, being a grown adult and of course, being trained. When you see people calling guys like Hatton and Paul Williams granite chinned fighters, and them being knocked out the next, only to be all off a sudden called glass jawed, doesn't sound right.

Plus, if you don't see the punch coming (like them three didn't), it'll hurt you or knock you out, granite chin or not, so all this stuff on whether a person has a weak chin or a granite chin, is rubbish, imo.

Sorry about that. I've always wanted to talk about it. Just seemed like the perfect time to say my opinion on it .

 

Prescott's power is horrendously over rated.

 

The basics are hold your hands up and move away from punches. Something he didn't used to do which drastically alter the way a punch is received. Look how he takes the sting off shots now. It's protecting his weak chin, not suddenly getting a 'better' chin.

-Williams isn't 'glass jawed'. Anyone who said that is a ****** IMO.

ANYONE can be knocked out. But you shouldn't have to take two rounds or so to recovery from bumrushes from an accumulative puncher like Maidana.

 

My personal opinion is if he decides to walk straight into Prescott's punches like a reckless idiot he will get KO'd again. His chin is no better than when he got knocked out before, what has changed is that he is more aware of where the punches are coming from, he is tactically better and he positions himself better to take the punches.

If he had been caught of Maidana earlier he would have eventually been KOd, he's a much better boxer now though and I think he would soundly outbox Prescott and possibly TKO him late

 

Prescott hit Khan with a lovely short left hook as they trade at mid-short range he landed it on the forehead of Khan. Khan didn't see the shot coming and obviously makes it worse. Prescott was actually nice and compact in that early attack with a few nice body punches. Also the first KD he did the right thing compared to Khan. Khan traded wildly because he was hurt. Prescott dipped his knees and chin and threw a lovely right hand over and left hook. Impressive IMO.

Does he do it now?...Nah i think he's fallen in love with that night and also Khan's a different fighter.

 

Exactly. It's his developments as a fighter that mask his poor punch resistance, whereas not even a steady diet of domestic non-punchers could hide these issues before.

Khan is one great example of why, generally, our talent pool is pretty shallow. More rounded approach to the game+Better opposition=Better fighters.

At 135, Khan had literally some of the worst punch resistance I've ever seen. And I've watched a fair bit of boxing.

Now he appears a far more rounded fighter, and there's far less of an air of vulnerability about him. He still makes mistakes, but more often that not he's less easy to hit. Fair play to him.

 

Granite, strong, iron, whatever. He was still known to have a good chin, but as soon as the Mayweather & Pacquiao KO's come, he's suddenly glass jawed.

Exactly, anyone can, but I don't put it down to whether a person's chin is weak or strong, because I just don't believe in it, to be honest.

It was 10 rounds, Amir was tired, they had both been through a lot, and Amir took a lot of serious punches in the 10th round.

You're talking as if Maidana is a light puncher. To be honest, it was to our shock that he even got through that round, let alone take 2 rounds to recover from it.

There's so many aspects to consider, and the Chin factor just doesn't tie into it, for me personally.

What I'm saying is, I just don't believe in Granite chins, decent chins, glass chins, or whatever chins there are . Doesn't quite make sense to me.

As both have moved up, Prescott's power (his only real selling point) has diminished while Khan's chin (his only real glaring weakness) has improved.
