"Right on the button" is sort-of an applicable term, though commentators use it for the jaw hinge, tip of chin, temple, etc. Anybody can be stunned/KOd with the right angle on a hotspot; the level of power you hit with IMHO makes the 'sweet spot' angle wider, so it's easier to tap. I consider being just plain dropped with a picture-perfect shot to the adam's apple, liver, solar plexus, or heart doesn't mean you're glass... just unlucky (and really glad when you can breathe again)!

A glass jaw could mean that your hotspots are especially easy to tap correctly or that your 'button' is your entire skull.

The guy who gets knocked down frequently but gets up may not have a great chin, but he has a better chin than a guy who WHEN he gets knocked down is OUT COLD.

I don't think many would argue that Fraudley or Rahman have better chins than Floyd Patterson, for example.

Some people dont understand what a glass jaw is. Glass jaw = getting KTFO by a light puncher. For example, Mundine KOed by S. Otke or Khan put down by W. Limond etc.

If you get TKO by a monster like prime Tyson e.g. this does not mean you have a glass Jaw.

If you dislike the fighter the answer = True.
But if you like the fighter the answer = False.

This is what I have learned from ESB. :yep

no IMO, because it could have come after a long, sustained beating where a fighter took a tremendous amount of punishment.

You speak the truth man but I think if I am not being cynical my earlier definition is the fairest.

In general people who tag fighters with the glass jaw tag are usually haters who don't know enough about boxing to defend their views without slinging ****. Right here on our very own beloved ESB I once read a post about "the china chinned Ali."

The first thing to ask about a knock out is; who hit him? Did Cory Spinks put the guy out with a single shot? Did Pavlik trap him in the corner and hit 47 times? Did Kessler smack him with a good combo? Did AA land his right hand bazooka?

Immediatetly after his loss to Verno Phillips, Bronco McKart knocked out a SMW, and in his next fight KOed a LHW! Anybody can be knocked out by the right kind of punch if they don't see it coming, and there are to many variables to lable a guy "glass jawed" based on one KO.

but if your glass jawed and get sparked like a joint by a hard puncher....are you glass jawed or you average?

boxing is a career sport you cant see the whole picture on one performance.

litzau has a bad chin but not completly glass he can stay up a bit but a hard sold punch is setting him off. mario viet just cant take anything his legs just dissappear when he gets touched on the chin. [YT]CVGihEczJCU[/YT] mundine for a world title holder getting stopped by ottke he went pretty far.:think

I agree with you on the point about looking at a guys whole career before making a judgemnt. However, Mundine got KOed cold by a guy who only stoped 5 people in 20+ wins and the fact Sven had a belt is irrelevant.

agreed. chins are born not made. though they can be broken over time. one can "develop" a glass jaw over years of punishment (ie: matthew saad muhammad), one can never develop an iron chin.
