True or False: If Hearns had a stronger chin, he would be in contention for G.O.A.T?

It's always better to make adjustments to your attributes if you cannot fix physical flaws IMO.

Look at Gamboa. He seems to keep his hands up for a bit and then revert back whenever he gets excited. Its his natural game. So if you can't fix it, teach him to roll with punches better AND to vary his punch output and placement so that he is not as open to getting hit. Is it gonna happen? Who the hell knows.....apparently he isn't listening to his trainer completely.

On a side note, the WeBL game a few of us play online teaches a great deal about the sport. You should check it out. www.vivi.com , just take a look around. If you decide to join, talk to Flatlander about it.

Hearns with an iron chin vs Jones with an iron chin would be one of the most interesting fantasy P4P H2H matchups of all time. A fight between the unbeatables.

You can contribute that to his amateur days ... he would move around tag his opponent and rack up points ... it was never a matter of getting KO'd rather than winning the fight on points. You can see that in his ability to throw straight punches.
Gamboa will tighten up once he takes a stroll down ***** street, but I think his major step up to elite level opponents will cause him to show his bad habits and get knocked out.

As far as Hearns I think that he simply couldve clinched or held on when he was rocked, but instincts kicked in alot with his trainer ... and he just fought back even harder.

If he would used his legs ... (he had good movement, but never seemed to use it when it counted) ... moved around and held on to avoid extra punishment he wouldve been straight.

Add to that - he was getting caught with punches that would drop anyone.

Chins are out the window when you're getting hit with flush shots ... I think more than anything Hearns had endurance issues and couldn't accept being dominated - being used to being the dominating figure and when he was faced with adversity, he didn't want to bow down to his ego.

As a Welterweight he is probably the third greatest, in the sense of who would actually beat who, not length of reign. On the night he fought Cuevas only the two Sugar Rays could have beaten him. He was a freak of nature and was an incredible boxer, with fast hands and amazing power.

It took all of SRL's guile, power and craft to KO Hearns in the 14th round, with Tommy being ahead for most of that fight. If that's a 12 round fight Hearns wins.

The losses to Hagler (one of the greatest middleweights of all time) and Barkely (at super middle I think) should not be counted against him in determining his standing as an all time Welterweight.

And he is definitely one of the greatest fighters of all time, as are Hagler and SRL. The greatest fighter of all time is probably SRR, who is certainly the greatest Welterweight.

False. His chin had nothing to do with his inability to deal effectively with stronger pressure fighters. It was his lack of strength and relative inside skills(compared to his outside skills) that would make the bigger, stronger inside bangers/pressure fighters a hard time for him. However, he'd have beaten Leonard more than likely with a strong chin.
