I don't know what's allowed because I've had threads with a link to the source listed get deleted but I've just read this quote from Gonzalez: "My amateur record was 88 wins and no losses. Back when [late Nicaraguan boxing idol] Alexis Arguello was the Mayor of Managua, the city would stage big amateur boxing events and the prize was a basket full of food, so all the kids were really motivated to box in order to win the prize. Every time I fought Id think of how happy my family would be if I won and brought the food back, so it really motivated me from the beginning the fact that through boxing I could help my family." I'm sure you can find the site with the quote. Really surprised to read this. Is anybody familiar with his amateur days? Does anyone dispute this? Does anyone know of any elite amateurs he faced or is this more of a very regional lower level career he had there? I can't find reference to him being at the Olympics or yearly world championships or anything like that. Or any other distinction. Still part of a good story. Just curious.
Don't know if true or false but wouldn't and undefeated amateur have some international fights such as World and Olympics etc?
