True or false? Roy Jones fought Tarver a third time only to survive 12 rounds?

Roy Jones was coming off of two straight kayo losses before his third fight with Tarver.

So do you think Roy Jones went into this fight with the simple mindset to survive 12 rounds to save some face?

Probably. Taylor looked content to do the same after getting stopped by Pavlik.

    somewhere in between.

that fight was hard to watch as roy showvoted knowing he was down & there was nothing he could do to win.

Roy is a prideful guy. He tried, realized he didn't have the stamina, and got whooped.

"Tried" is way too strong a word to describe RJ's performance. He certainly "tried" in rounds 4 and 5 but in every other round, i didn't see much effort on his part to actually try to win the fight.

I think RJ went into the fight primarily to go 12 rounds with the thinking that if Tarver presented some freakish opening, he would take advantage but other than that, he was contempt to lose a 12 round decision IMO.

did'nt he say that he threw the fight, so his dad would'nt get credit or something of that nature?

I love RJ too but he did not fight to win against Johnson and Tarver 3. No way in hell.

I never heard him say it directly but obviously there was talk about this. But do you think RJ would actually lose just to see his father not get credit if he won? That's a little far fetched.
