Didn't Jake la Motta claim he was so nervous before the Sugar Ray Robinson fight (no 5 I think) and was so out of shape he knew he was going to take a beating that he drank a bottle of brandy before he entered the ring.

Gallagher said Murray was on the **** in the build up to the Mitchell fight.

Ketchel went out drinking/whoring before lots of his fights but my 1st thought was Benny Lynch.

On a similar note Locche & Monzon were smokers & Laing smoked more weed than I do.

 

Night out in town - Saturday night.

In Swansea Nightclub - probaly fighting off the all the girls - because he said he is a pretty boy.

Downing - Stella, - Vodka shots - Jagger Bombs - you name it - maybe even some Gin and Jack Daniels. drinkdrink

Its gone Midnight - and he is still - in the Club on the lash.

Gets a Taxi home about 3.30 am.

Crashs into bed - at about 4 am.

Sets his alarm for 1.00pm - because he got to get up to fight Swaby.

Alarm wakes him 1.00pm - terrible hangover.

Gets changed - life down Swansea Liesure Centre.

3,00pm - still hungover - gets knocked out by Swaby. nutnut:nut

 

its old memories now folks, but I remember when Frank maloney 'outed' Scotty Harrison as being a mad boozebag on a downward spiral in the papers, he said at the press conference for the Harrison-Kebede fight that Scotty was actually boozed up & threatening Samuel when he was in Kebedes face at the press conference...

tony ayala loved coke before fights if that counts.

 

yeah, i heard it from an impeccable source in the Eubank camp that one of them caught benn on the champers (from memory) a day or two before the first fight. champagne and a couple of ladeez...

 

I remember concreting on a dam near Ft William and this guy asks me what book i was reading (Tommy Hauser - Ali) and after saying such........he told me how he made a heap of cash on a fighter called Alex Arthur.

Naturally i was like aye !!!???

He then proceeded to tell me that his taxi driver mate had told him to put a lot of money on a Micheal Gomez as he had just picked up his opponent steaming drunk (at the time) 6 weeks before they were due to fight.........

Dunno how true it is/was (Arthur) but i didnt know the guy and he didnt even know boxing......as he went on to tell me.
