Agreed. Floyd Patterson was a true gentleman of the sport. The few people I know who were lucky enough to meet him before he died and when he was champion said he was the nicest of all the boxers.
Len Harvey, an absolute class act, Britain's greatest ambassador to the Home of Boxing, a stylish boxer, a multi-divisional champion, top world class boxing great, and by all accounts a true Gentleman!
Yeah, Floyd always springs to mind in these threads Not a big name by no means but a world champ never-the-less was Glenn MacCrory, cruiserweight champ. Met him twice and he could not have been more pleasent. Real nice guy.
Oddly enough I cant remember meeting or being around too many fighters that I felt were total dicks. The ones that stand out to me are Hector Camacho, and Michael Moorer, and Mike Tyson, but Ive been around Tyson where he was super cool too. Moorer probably stands out the most as being the strangest. He was one of those scary people that could be setoff very easily even when he was in a good mood. For example call him Mike instead of Michael and he freaks out. Camacho was just an arrogant dick.
Patterson was the first name I thought of but Kenny Norton springs to mind too. I remember near the end Champions Forever video all 5 were asked how they would like to be remembered, MA, JF, GF & LH all said something about "a great fighter" etc, Kenny said something along the lines of "a nice guy who didn't want to hurt anybody". Class.
