Don't think he was ever overrated. It was just that he dissapointed in the biggest fight of his life with the toe injury and never was able to return to those heights.

Anyone remember when Wlad warned Haye in that post-fight presser when Haye was showing off his toe? "Don't do this man, this will only come back to haunt you". Haye laughed it off, feeling certain he could secure a rematch with Wlad to cash in again.

Now looking back at Haye's career, Wlad was spot on. That moment defined Haye's career. A con-artist who doesn't know when his fraudulent scheme has run its course. He just goes on and on and on.

Every Brit fighter is overrated. Nothing unusual in that.

Yeah, just like "I was poisoned" Wlad did, eh? https://www.eurosport.com/boxing/foul-play_sto584449/story.shtml Really took the loss like a man...

You know why Wlad offered Haye that advice? Becuase he knew from experiance that making up bull**** excuses for a loss never looks good and hangs over your head forever.

Who did Haye ever actually beat? A monstrously big and equally monstrously mediocre Russian? A journeyman Chisora? What did he even do at cruiser that was particularly impressive?

    Hype job.

See Wlad learned from his BS excuse and stopped repeating it after a couple of months. Wlad learned excuses are for losers, champions dust themselves off and come back stronger. Haye however kept coming up with new promises and new excuses all the time. He never learned, he never stopped.

While I do agree that Haye was overrated in his prime, I wouldn’t hold this against him, no matter the size of Belles. Haye is done, his body can’t handle it anymore.

this happens to every decent fighter at tail end of their career. people say that weren't anything anyway. the truth is he clearly wasn't at his best and his body couldn't take it even though he may have been mentally up for it. reminds me of Tyson against Danny Williams, he seemed well up for the fight and was doing ok but his body let him down. Haye might have been up for it but as with Tyson, it was too late. Haye wasn't an all timer in my eyes but he had the potential and was a great talent, I think looking for the big money at heavyweight took priority over his legacy and that shortened his career.

It never happened to Carl Froch, Lennox Lewis or Joe Calzaghe...

All of them retired on top, with a win and never returned

Only those who make bad investments or get skewered financially for other reasons, end up returning and harming their legacies.

agree but the point I'm making is when this does happen to fighters people seem to want to discredit what they where before based on the tail end of their career "Haye was always over rated anyway" etc. he has to take the blame as he came back and made this mess full knowing he wasn't fit, but the fact is you cant take much from it in terms of evaluating his career, in the same way Tyson wouldnt have the Williams or McBride fights held against him in terms of legacy.
