Oscar has DESTROYED his legacy He's fightins a guy naturally 30 pounds lighter than him when he should be facing the guy he called out Tony Margarito.
Oscar saw Cotto's face after Tony savaged him and suddenly his cojones dissappeared.
    Sorry but todays Oscar SUCKS!!!!!!

Mexico vs. Mexico does sell, as did Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Oscar not once but twice. It was the passing of the torch fight from the old Mexican legend to the heir apparent.

That is exactly what Margarito vs. Oscar would be. It would be a huge seller, HUGE. Don't forget, Oscar said a few weeks ago he would "definitely fight Margarito next year."

Very good post, I was just thinking the same the second I saw this thread. Someone the other day called Antonio Margarito a shithouse or something like that. Asif he's scared, he's just thinking about whats best for business. Same as them all. But it is easier to call someone a fanny, than respect his business brain. But these business moves do show their fear of losing to a certain fighter.

oscar fough bernard hopkins who is way bigger than margarito... what makes you think he's scared of margarito? margarito is not a one punch ko artist or something... your starting to soudn silly

i definitely agree... if you look at all modern sports in america (nba basketball, nfl Football, Pro Boxing) we (the athletes & partially the fans) have become very snooty because there is so much money being tossed around and becase of the growth of the internet we have been able to acquire information that normally we wouldnt have access to and now everybody wants to be a super star... back in the day it was strictly about pride and who was the toughest & most rugged fighter and at the end of the day thats what paid the bills.... but now theres a big formula of who you should fight.... or just like in basketball you cant foul a guy hard any more and make him regret going up soft... or in football any contact with the qb = penalty & foul....

sports are just getting to pretty

i think you need to do some research.. i would say you must be a new boxing fan but i dont like to toss that around because ive only been watching boxing as a serious fan for the past 6 years but i do my research... and if you have done your research what you would find out that not only has oscar won a gold medal but he's held 10 different world titles in six different weight classes he is one of the only if not THE ONLY boxer to ever do that.... so his legacy is cemented... dont be stupid... he just getting this money while he can

im not saying that it would be a dud .. but oscar vs cotto would be better cotto is 10000 times more marketable than margarito anyways, and oscar vs manny is less risky manny is 1000000 times more recognized than margarito and manny is p4p #1 and literally has the entire phillipenes backing up which is something you cant say for margarito.. margarito is not very marketable, speaks no english, isnt recognized, and has 1 recognize able name to his resume, while paq has several recognizable names on his resume and is more achieved, and cotto has shane would have had margarito & been p4p #2 probably, had zab..

plus margarito would have been a very rough and tumble fight for oscar which is something he obviously doesnt care to do.. this guys like 36 and clearly at the end of his career.. he's just trying to get the green

like i was telling my friend recently i think once you get to a certain point of stardom as a boxer... its not even about fighting the best guys any more the fighters are more worried about collecting $$ for their pockets because they have already proved them selves by fighting the toughest guys prior to their stardom

its not even that... if margarito fights & loses to say a paul williams... not only does paul williams get the go ahead to be come the #1 welterweight... but any leverage margarito had going into the cotto fight and potentially getting to fight oscar one more time disapears... he just becomes a scrub ass fighter that has to start over from the bottom of the totem pole....

he fights and beats shane and grows in popularity..
fights and probably beats cotto again and grows in popularity
then he can fight a paul williams fight and its a huge fight or maybe lure oscar or floyd into a big money fight..

    thats probably his intentions

Yes that's what I'm thinking too, it looks worse if he's taking less money to face Mosley but in the long run he is probably making the right move.

the fact of the matter is he is probably going to destroy mosley go on to destroy cotto again and have some mainstream popularity...

fighting paul williams would lose all that popularity for no reason..
fight clottey would be walking in circles
fighting anyone else would be pointless because at this point margarito cant fight guys like that

I think some people on here are confusing 'fear' and 'scared', and I tend to agree with walk with me on this one.

I dont think boxers by their very nature and profession are scared of fighting a particular fighter, thereby ducking them.

I do feel however that when they get into the ring they experience a 'fear' that either drives them to victory, or crushes them inside on the way to defeat.

All fighters whether amateur, journeymen (especially journeymen), or Elite level fighters are corageous in that they risk their life everytime they get into a boxing ring, and kudos to them all.
