Im using weights to bulk up but i dont wana gain fat , right now im like 9 stone 12 lb , should i keep doing cardio regularly to keep the fat off or cut it out a bit ??
Keep your cardio sessions short and intense. It'll be very hard to bulk up without gaining fat, most people tend to ignore the fat, aim a few kilos above their goal weight and then worry about getting lean once they've finished gaining. And listen to the man himself: http://www.rosstraining.com/articles/hardcore.html
You don't have to, but if your primary goal is weight gain then 3-4 mile runs will be detrimental to that goal.
I'm in the same position at the moment, trying to bulk up, and have cut way back on cardio after being advised to just walk 30-45 mins after my weights workouts. but i still run 4 miles a day too, i just dont tear the arse out of it timings wise. Nice, steady 2 mile jog to the park where i do my circuits then same on the way home. and i walk everywhere anyway.
Consuming more calories bulks you up. Weights can potentially build muscle, but diet is 80% of the work.
Protein ? Can someone explain why you gain fat while bulking up? I understand the need to eat to get bigger but that doesn´t mean you have to eat that much.
I'd be wary of giving advice like that to beginners. I can just picture someone taking that sentence literally, eating a ton of food, and wondering why their stomach is bulking up more than other areas...
you need to eat the right foods, work out and don't forget your ab work if you don't want to develop a fatty stomach. Also cardio is important but maybe just once a week? I see guys at the gym with massive arms but bellys to match because they can't be arsed to run or swim.
Direct ab work isn't needed at all actually. And you can still have a fat midsection even if you do ab work. Abs are made in the kitchen.
it is needed, sure you have to eat the right foods but you need to put in the work aswell. Food is the most important thing if you want the muscle to show through but you have to build the muscles aswell.
