I remember this thread some time ago and most were of the opinion that Pryor would win this fight. After watching both Pryor Vs Aguello fights Pryor would get murdered by Tszu! Pryor rushing in over reaching with his head up high would end up out like a light by Tszu's perscision thinder bolts and vicious body shots Pryor's like a buzzsaw Tszu's like a missile the differnce in power and boxing skills are worlds apart Pryor's defence is throwing alot of leather other than that he has none, he holds his hands below his chin and squars up alot. i think anyone who thinks Pryor would beat Tszu is living of Nostalgia!
Tszyu vs Phillips would probably give you a better indication of how this fight would have gone then Pryor vs Arguello. Definitely a fight that is debateble, you can make a case for either to win. IMO a case for Pryor is a little stronger, but in any case there is no way in hell Kostya murders him and to say they are world aparts in any aspect is laughable. Kronka doodle doo, the rooster is crowing so wake up.
Tszyu was a great fighter but Pryor would destroy him. Fighters who came at Tszyu and backed him up gave him fits, this is how he lost to Vince Phillips and Ricky Hatton. Pryor was the ultimate come forward fighter. Aaron Pryor is the best 140 pounder who ever lived, including JCC.
i cant belive what im reading honestly have a look at Pryor he is so easy to hit and Tszu is the hardest hitter to ever fight at 140 and one of the most accurate! i dont agree!
While I think Pryor has become overrated historically, H2H, he was a hell of a fighter in his prime, and he's a very tough matchup for Tszyu. As well as for greater fighters like Mayweather, Chavez, and Whitaker. I would have to make Pryor the favorite, for the reasons already stated,
He did not say that. No one has said that. But there is more to skill in boxing then deft moves and technically sound punching. Thats for another thread. Pryor was quite awkward and unorthodox coupled with very impressive physical strength and gifts. In a word he is a nightmare fight for someone like Tszyu who likes punching range and time to set himself up.
Team Kronk, you should stay off your product. On Pryor's bad days he KO's Kosta within 10 rounds. Sorry dude.
Stay away from that **** main...Aaron Pryor best 140 pounder to ever put on some gloves...ask Sugar Ray Leonard
I'm a huge fan of Tszyu but would have to pick against him here, Tszyu has issues with pressure fighters and Pryor will be there all day whether he's knocked down or not he will be in his face all night. Pryor's style isn't the best for Tszyu's style.
Im a huge Tszyu fan but I still rate Pryor in a H2H matchup. Arguello was similar to Tszyu in that he was accurate, powerful and sharp with his punches, and I would pick Tszyu if Pryor had less of a chin. But the fact is a prime Pryor could take anything flush on the chin and fight harder. Both of Tszyus losses were more than just giving into pressure, he had training issues and was overconfident against Phillips and faught a stupid fight...he was much better than those fights suggested (that wasn't a prime Tszyu in either). For what its worth I pick Tszyu over most of the ATG's at 140 (H2H), but Pryor is all wrong for him.
In their amatuer days, Leonard moved up just to get away from Pryor...Pryor even beat tommy hearns:thumbsup
You're obviously biased here. Pryor, first of all, was not as hittable as you make out. That's not to say he was some kind of defensive master, but the angles and pace he set made it very hard for opponent's to time him, which is a big part of the reason Arguello (a much better body puncher than Tszyu) relied so much on his body attack. Even when he was landing clean, hard shots to the head, Pryor simply kept coming. He did the same in pretty much al of his fights under similar circumstances, such as the Johnson and Kameda fights. The harder the shots he took, the harder he kept coming. The same can't be said for Tszyu on the other hand, as we saw when he was faced with an opponent who was able to take what he dished out and match him punch for punch (a fighter not on Pryor's level, mind you) in Vince Phillips. Tszyu was at his best against boxers; fighters who allowed him to dictate the pace by applying constant pressure and allowing him to seize them up, time them, and explode with his straight rights (which was his primary weapon, whereas Arguello was much more versatile with his punch picking). Top notch pressure fighters and swarmers on the other hand would've always given him trouble, considering they'd have him fighting on the move rather than in his comfort zone. They'd also be able to close the distance on him, limiting his ability to feel out proper range and time his shots. Tszyu was very effective, but he developed into a one-dimensional power puncher as his career progressed. Pryor was a tad more versatile, but for the most part a one way stylist. The problem is, that style is bad for Tszyu's, and Pryor was one of the best to apply it in his prime.
I dont know man, Tszyu had a hell of a night against Hatton. I know Pryor is not Hatton but he brings it in a similar matter, but hasa bit more talent and a harder punch. Tszyu was a bit old, but he wasnt really washed up against Hatton either, so that might shet a buit of light on the issue
Based on what? The inane nonsense spouted on some old Legendary Nights special? I thought we'd dispelled these lame Leonard/Pryor rumors. Yes, a 21 year old Pryor beat a 17 year old Hearns completely devoid of any of the power he'd later harness, and raw as far as his technical abilities. What an accomplishment.
