There are some who think the stoppage in the fight between Kosta Tszyu and Zab Judah was premature. I can't say I agree. This content is protected Judah made the mistake of getting up too early, which caused him to stumble over like a drunk giraffe. Judah looked like he didn't know where he was when he got up.
I remember seeing that live and thinking how Judah was gonna knock him out with his speed advantage and punching power. I was so shocked I couldn't believe it! These were the days of Max Kellerman jockin Judah like he was the next Whitaker... It wasn't supposed to be that way.
You can't fall twice from the same punch and expect to be allowed to continue. I was going to say that Jay Nady WAS one of my fave refs but realized he is still quite active at 75 years old.
I think you’ve got it right. One of the weird ways Tszyu messed with Zab before the fight was he made casual conversation about his new child dad to dad, when Judah tried to act hard. “Do you find bottle feeding hard?, is it difficult to get sleep?” Things to that effect.
Great stoppage and epic melt afterwards. Tszyu looked to have figured Zabs style out after a round and was already walking him down after a tricky first. The punch that ended matters had perfect timing and leverage and initially didn’t look that hard. Watching Judah completed discombobulated from it shows how precise it was. A great boxing moment for me.
I must be a barbarian, but if I were the ref and there was no rule about going down twice from one shot, I would've watched Judah get to his feet. If I thought he could go, I would've let him, but Zab would have to show me he's ok by walking toward me. If he immediately begins to eat hard shots, it's over. Maybe it's good that I am not a ref.
