Love the way the Russians refer to Kostya as Konstantin.

Yes, it is his real name. But it just sounds odd:

Tszyu goes into International Boxing Hall of Fame

from The Voice of Russia online - June 16th 2011

Konstantin Tszyu is among the handful of international boxing superstars who were entered into the international Boxing Hall of Fame. In an exclusive interview with the Voice of Russia, he talked about his idols in childhood, life after leaving the ring, the achievements of his children in sport.

Konstantin Tszyu is one of the strongest boxers in the world’s history of boxing. The number of titles won by him is the envy of many people. He started his career in the ring in a town in the Urals after joining a boxing section at the age of ten. He won his first title when he became the Soviet champion among juniors after five years. During his amateur career, he won 270 fights out of 282 and became the world and European champion. He also won the Goodwill Games. After the victory in the world championship in Sydney in 1991, Tszyu received an invitation to stay in Australia. He became an Australian citizen in 1993. “However, I always represented both countries, Russia and Australia in the ring,” says Konstantin Tszyu.

After shifting to a professional career, the Russian boxer, whose nickname “Thunder from Down Under”, won 31 bouts out of 43. Konstantin Tszyu became the absolute champion and unified all the belts of three leading boxing organizations, the World Boxing Council, the World Boxing Association and the International Boxing Federation.

Konstantin Tszyu was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the city of Canastota, State New York, on the 12th of June. He was accompanied by Mike Tyson, Sylvester Stallone, who was cast in the main role of the film Rocky, and other prominent figures at the ceremony.

At present Konstantin Tszyu is spending a lot of time in Russia and has devoted himself to promoting boxing in this country. He has set up his Academy, and schools named after him. He also sponsors the Tszyu Cup boxing tournaments. He has set the task of encouraging as many as children to go into boxing and spend a healthy life-style. “We are now opening sport halls in Moscow and other Russian regions. This year, we will have 5 or 6 halls. One can not only visit these halls, which are named after me but also they can be sure that I was there,” Tszyu said.

Konstantin Tszyu is also engaged in making sportswear for men and women. His first shop was opened in Yekaterinburg. Tszyu also takes part in popular television programmes and shows. At the same time he does his best to pay maximum attention to his family. Konstantin has three children, two sons and a younger daughter. The sons are also going in for boxing and have shown good results, says Konstantin Tszyu:

“My younger son started going in for boxing some time ago, and after six months he won the Australian championship. Meanwhile, the older son has recently won the championship of his state. I do not coach my children because the trainer should be with them daily. At present, I have other work. My children have a good coach and I am satisfied with him,” Konstantin Tszyu said.

Who know that we may hear the name Tszyu at boxing tournaments in the future?

Moons ago I was Arfa Rabbit (R for Rabbit) & accidentally sent one of Wombles flying off the stage @ Monash Uni theatre.
Maybe IBHF should also consider me??:lol:
Fail to understand how Stallone could even be considered??

Man, plenty of the seppo posters are bagging Tszyu's entry on the general forum :-(

**** they're ****s, they keep bringing up the Vince Phillips loss and that Tszyu 'quit' against Hatton as reasons for him not being worthy.

No wonder we haven't seen PBF vs Pacman yet, ****ing yanks are all about the '0' instead of actually fighting, ***gots :-(

Yeah, that was also mentioned in the thread in the GF.

WTF would those 2 and any of the other detractors know about it?

Coming back from a potentially career-ending loss to Phillips on top of his legal battles with Mordey to unify a divison title by title (rather than in a single fight) for the first time in 30-odd years and defending his title everywhere but his backyard is good enough for me.

Yep, that plus the fact he sparked a few black American boxers (Judah, Mitchell).

Judah was the next Superman as far as those dickheads were concerned and Tszyu destroyed his career...not that those clowns would admit that.

You hit the nail fairly right on the head there Bru, the yanks are, in general, dickheads. Speaking of bru, I'm enjoying one or two as we speak, strictly medicinal, mind.

I think it comes down to American stupidity.
Lack of identity in the USA due to limited PPV, as King was never his head honcho.
Beating up on 'has beens' (Chavez, Gonzalez, Ruelas) after the De La Hoya's etc had milked the public against the listed fighters.
Mosely moving directly to Welter from Lightweight for a massive PPV $$.
**** poor intelligence/connections from Vlad Wharton.

Tszyu always played second fiddle to DHL when his career should have been ESTABLISHED in the Spew.S.A.

If it ain't Prime Time in the USA, it never happened.
