Who would you favour? Two sledge hammer right hands meeting... Tszyus accuracy or Maidanas looping bombs?
Ah, a rare good hypothetical on esb. Bravo to you, sir. Hm...I gotta go with Chino. It’s one of those “awkward vs very orthodox” matchups, and as we know, the more textbook guy doesn’t always win. I don’t see anything in Tszyu’s arsenal that could seriously hurt Maidana, as he was still standing after some brutal shots in a few of his fights. Maidana’s relentlessness would eventually wear Tszyu down. Tszyu was never particularly hard to hit.
Would have to say Tszyu. Just a different quality of fighter to me. Hard, straight, accurate punches, very underrated technician and a good enough chin to handle what Maidana can throw at him. Maidana would be difficult because of his awkward, unorthodox style, but would say Tszyu probably by 116-112ish decision.
Two well made cases for both fighters in a sensible fight? Nope, not for me. I'm only here for the ridiculous. Tszyu TKO 1
Very interesting match up. Tszyu is a boxer-puncher and Maidana is an awkward brawler. Prime for prime - I have Tszyu if he stays on the outside with a hard fought but clear UD with sharper down the middle shots that beat Maidona's looping right hands. The older version of Tszyu that fought Hatton, gets pummeled. Tszyu cant fight backwards as we saw later in his career.
I think Tszyu's power might even rattle the usually durable Maidana. Maidana never fought a puncher like Tszyu, his hard straight shots will eventually take a toll. Miguel Angel Gonzalez walked through everything De Lad Hoya could throw at it and he threw the kitchen sink at that chin but when he fought Tszyu, he was hurt easily a number of times, Tszyu's power was just too much even for his iron chin, might be the same with Maidana. Having said that the losses to Phillips and Hatton suggest Maidana might have some success with his rough mauling style, Tszyu didn't like being pressured and pushed back, if Maidana can get him onto the back foot and make it rough he might give Tszyu trouble. But that's a big ask, Maidana might just be too easy to hit and too brave for his own good and gets stopped late.
Exactly. Different interpretations of the same basic viewpoint. It's like those religious nuts, only smart.
ffs what have we become. Tszyu is the goat at 140. Maidana gave 90 year old Floyd some problems and beat the great Hype of Broner so what.. Not even close - 6 rounds at best. At whatever weight you decide. Tszyu by knockout.
Bad styles match up for Zoo. Maidana is a guy who will sell out to win and is too rugged for Zoo, he won't show him any respect, he wears him down and stops him late.
Good responses. In all honesty I'd go Tszyu.. Maidana would bring it but Tszyu was the superior operator with greater pedigree. Brilliant at cutting the ring off, had impeccable timing, heavy hands.. Maidana was more of a brawler. He lost to Ricky sure but he was mid 30s by then, & Hatton was on fire that night.. Fun fight but Tszyu was elite.
