Show me the money! JOHN MATHESON - Sunday News | Sunday, 27 July 2008 THE oh-so-important ingredient of "dollars and cents" is the only thing stopping David Tua's bout against Chris Arreola being inked. The duo are set to meet in September or October in a title eliminator in California. The winner will be guaranteed a shot at the world heavyweight title. Both fighters' promoters Arreola's Dan Goosen and Tua's Cedric Kushner hooked up for a phone conference in the US last night. "There's a real determination to get the deal done in the next couple of days," Kushner said from New York. "Is there a sticking point? Put it this way once the dollars and cents come together the way everyone wants them, the fight will be made. "We're not a million miles away at the moment. "There's a lot of interest in the fight and we need to be compensated for that." The determination to make the fight is shared by the combatants. Arreola, driven by the desire to be the first Mexican to win a heavyweight crown last week said : "I'm looking forward to fighting David Tua. "I want to fight David Tua. "Everybody wants to watch that fight and I want to give the fans what they want to watch." With pay-per-view giants HBO lined up to air the fight in the US, Tua can expect his first six-figure US dollar payday since his last bout under the control of former managers Kevin Barry and Martin Pugh. "I spoke to Dave last night he can't wait to get into camp and start preparing for Arreola," Kushner said. "He's in a great space right now. He's got his eye on the prize. "He wants to be the heavyweight champion and this fight will propel him onto that stage again. "And thank goodness for that. "The heavyweight division needs Dave. "The prospect of a former No 1 contender (Tua) and a current top-five guy (Arreola) has a lot of people excited." http://www.stuff.co.nz/sundaynews/
This'd be great in California. And I'd expect it likely that it'll be a motivated and in shape Tua that steps into the ring. Arreola will earn respect from this move too if it does go down. I really don't know how to call it, I'll just watch it and see.
Man - I hope it gets made too. It seems pretty close and I believe Arreola truly wants it. He must honestly rate himself against Tua. I think Tua will win by KO
No Arreola would probably die of a heart attack after 2 rounds if he tried to throw as many punches as Ike did. Tua is going to expose Arreola as an even more one dimensional fighter, and win by KO. Arreolas whole game is slugging it out when he pushes his oppontant to the ropes. Tua isn't being bulled into the ropes, and has more power and chin than Arreola anyway.
Tua badly needs this fight. If Kushner screws this up over money, Tua should seriously consider retirement...it's that serious, because there are very few opportunities as good as this one to get himself back into the ranks of the contenders again.
Tua almost had the ink on for Brewster and so many more before him. This is far from a done deal:smoke
