I recently saw the fight with Tua for the 1st time and it was just a systematic destruction. He just didn't dominate Tua, #1 contender at the time, he made him look like a fool and an amateur. Really exposed Tua as a one-dimensional slugger. Just kept moving to his left and using that jab the whole fight. I have to say this is his best and most impressive performance. 12-0 Shutout. This was prime Lennox Lewis :nod
Lewis boxed expertly in this fight - but it would have been nice if he would have settled in and walked Tua down.
nah rahman II was his best. he was so focused on revenge and got himself into superb shape and brutalized rahman for 4 rounds before knocking him the **** out with one of the sweetest finishing combos ever thrown in a world HW title fight.
I remember at the time a lot of fools were saying Lewis was a coward and ran. Any fan should have known that it was a supreme display of how to adapt to a particular style. Lewis knew Tua was a real threat so totally nullified him with slick boxing rather than the easy route of holding.
i liked this performance from lennox, and i was pullin for tua. if he did'nt fight too caustiously and let his hands fly more, he probably could have forced a stoppage from the ref (even lennox aint stopping tua). still a strong showing from him.
I guess it depends on what floats your boat. For me, whilst Lewis' utter domination over Tua was impressive from a skills point of view, it wasn't a particularly engaging fight. Personally, I think the Ruddock fight was a much better performance, as Lewis was considered to be the underdog, and was thought to be untested & not have a great amount of power. For me, that fight was when Lewis REALLY arrived as a force to be reckoned with, and I think that's got to be up there with his best performances.
This was Lewis' best technical performance. He boxed Tua silly. I remember Tua being a bit aggresive early, and Lennox timed him a couple of times, making David walk into the right. After taking a few of these, Tua wasn't so frisky anymore. From then on, Tua was constantly on the end of Lewis' jab and straight right. Lewis' best performance, in my humble opinion , was his breakthrough fight against Razor Ruddock. That devestating second round knockout put me in awe. It served notice that Lennox was going to be a player.
Those who say Lennox just "ran" didn't see the fight. He timed Tua coming in with the jab and threw some great combinations after making the openings for himself. Tua's chin kept him in there for the full 12 rounds, but Lennox did open up offensively several times.
Itsgood to see a thread with some brains in it. Anyone who says Lewis was boring is a couple of Smarties short.
His 1st agaisnt Holyfield that got called a draw proved he would have dominated Bowe and prime Tyson.
