Who have better tools, Tua or Peter?

    Elaborate on:
    - chin
    - power
    - boxing skills

Tua is not only has more effective power punches than Peter, he's also a much better boxer with more waist movement, coming in low, slipping inside, etc. Agressive offensive movement to get in position.........movement that Peter don't, or can't, do.

Tua is better than Peter in just about every way imaginable.

CHIN: David Tua has the better chin. I've never seen him wobbled and I've seen him take some massive shots from big punchers. Peter has a great chin as well, but just a level below the Tuaman's.

POWER: Samuel Peter is very heavy handed and strong, but his power isn't as good as David Tua's. Tua is one of the hardest punchers I have ever seen in my lifetime.

BOXING SKILLS: Skills include a variety of things (mastery of distances - inside and out, timing, punching technique, ring smarts). Peter outboxed Toney the 2nd fight and used a very good jab, but Tua is the better infighter and knows how to throw punches correctly. Tua also is the better body puncher and the better combination puncher. Tua's jab is pretty decent as well and he is tougher to hit than Peter is now. Plus, David knows how to slip punches and get inside.

Overall, Tua (in his prime) is the better fighter. I have no doubts about that.

Prime for prime, Tua stops Peter late. Right now, I think Peter wins a decision, but you can't count Tua out. If Peter stands right in front of him and elects to trade instead of using his jab and boxing from a distance, he may find himself in some big trouble late.

I think Tua would stop Peter, now.

Right, other than height/reach (3 inches or so/7 inches) Peter doesn't have much on him. The styles each have are vastly different though. So I think that most people will be confused when it comes to the boxing skills subject. Boxing skills don't just encompass jabs and keeping your opponent at bay (ala Wlad) they also take into account your ability to take away advantages of your opponents.

Tua has shown more of that than Peter has. His ability to slip in and connect with short hooks on opponents much taller than he is, is what makes him better. He may not be better in the jab department, but because of his height he can't really improve on that when fighting guys 5-6 inches taller than he is.

Tua is the better boxer, don't let Peter's last match against Toney fool you. You need to look at them as a whole, and Tua on the whole is much better.

Considering his declining weight, I think Tua beats Peter if he keeps it up.

Tua wins all 3. Peter proved his chin against one huge puncher in Wladimir, Tua proved against MANY, Peter showed some decent skills in the second Toney fight but Tua has been in there against MANY skilled opponents already so he wins this one as well. Power, Tua wins as well simply because he has proved it against WAY more. Peter has like 25 professional fights only, too early to compre skills/power/chin, Tua has been in there and proven those 3 points against many different and better opponents.

I agree here. If Tua stops him it would most likely be on cuts

im surprised how many people favor tua now. He is so much older and hasn't fought a legit hw for 4 years. Peter's youth imo gives him a big advantage. Today, i could see scam winning a wide ud. i dont think tua has the drive and movement anymore. Prime tua should win a wide ud.

I think people are overrating the current version of Tua based on his stoppage of Montona, a 36 year old, short, fat, heavyweight who had been stopped 10 times before. IMO, Peter wins by decision if they were to fight right now. Prime for prime might be a different story, but I don't think we have seen Peter's prime yet.

    Exactly right mate.

That win over Montana means absolutely nothing, the only real positive sign to come out of it is that Tua came in much better shape.

I think a prime Tua is easily better in all of those categories but he aint near prime anymore.

Peter might never amount to anything but his level of opposition has improved and so has he, and he might continue to do so.

Two important aspects that you left out: Peter has a far better jab than Tua, AND Peter applies a lot of pressure. I mean look at how "tamed" Tua was against Lewis after eating some big shots, whereas Peter kept coming forward like a mad bull for the full 12 rounds against Klitschko, despite eating a lot of hard shots as well.

These are qualities where Peter edges Tua. But if it's only about power and chin, Tua takes it. Sidenote: While Tua has a slightly better chin, Peter's chin is also so incredibly good that it will never be the reason he loses a fight. Stopping to come forward despite being able to take a shot, however, WILL make you lose a fight.

I think Tua wins all those areas, and in his prime would have eaten Peter, though Tua's stamina and workrate is in question.
Neither is particular skilled though Tua is good at what he does he can only fight one way so stylistic match ups are important and Peter seems almost made for him.
A poll for best shape would be very close though:good
