Who would you guys take in this one.I think Tua may catch him late in the fight and stop him, being behind on the cards. Tua tko 10.
This one would be a fun one to watch. I think Peter's too stationary for Tua...Tua would be able to land whatever he wanted and would eventually KO him.
At the risk of sounding unpopular (and I like Tua a lot) I don't think he's been facing the competition lately to stand up to even a crude guy like Peter. I'm thinking age has caught up with him. If Tua were to take some more advanced fights, and performed well, I'd pick him to win.
Peter by KO. I agree with SteveO - the level of comp. has been down for Tua. and up for Peter. Yeah McCline put him down and Yeah Tua hasn't been down that many times - but I see Peter boxing like he did Toney and not getting caught much. Would be a nice fight to see.
I think you are right. I like Tua, but I think going from guys like Montoya and Fox to a guy like Peter is a big jump. Even with his flaws, Peter is likely to be in good shape for this fight, and Tua won't have an easy time reaching him. Of course, Tua still has the power, so he always has a puncher's chance.
The biggest mistake Tua recently made was turning down an opportunity to face Brewster on HBO. I knew he ****ed up at the time, and I still believe it! Brewster was a WINNABLE fight for Tua that would have put him back in consideration for contention. Instead, Tua turned it down and Brewster wound up rematching Wlad. BIG MISTAKE by Team Tua--they may not get another opportunity like that.
You DO know Tua has never been on the canvas much less knocked out and you're expecting Sam Peter, who has never knocked out a top 10 fighter ever, to knock out Tua for the first time? PUHLEASE.
I agree. Chances like that don't come around often. After watching Brewster's performance against Wlad, I am pretty sure that Tua would have beaten him. Brewster would have been a nice name for Tua to add to his list of victories on the comeback trail.
I don't believe Peter would KO Tua, but Tua's chin isn't made of the same granite it once was. Having seen a few of his recent bouts live, he was stopped in his tracks by mediocre punchers--something which would never have happened in his prime. Tua-Peter sounds like an appealing fight, but I suspect it would be a real stinker.
I couldn't believe he had turned it down. The thing is, Tua has finally started doing some of the little things he should always have been doing, such as working the body. I think Roger Bloodworth definitely brings out the best in Tua. Unfortunately, Tua's best days are behind him. He has no one to blame but himself--his downfall began when he refused to rematch Rahman and take on Grant as he sat on his IBF #1 ranking waiting for the Lewis bout. During that timeframe, he got fat and lazy and was never able to return to top form. The closest he came was against Byrd, but Chris represented a stylistic nightmare for Tua.
Yep, Tua fought some soft competition while waiting for his shot at LL, and his weight went up while his skills seemed to decrease. Too bad, because he was in his prime then and he's never gotten that back.
Tua can take a shot but there's no way Peters's egg chin stands up to Tua's power. He was all but gone against sorry ass McCline for christ sake
It wasn't McCline's power that dropped Peter, but his handspeed and the fact Peter never saw that first shot coming. I'm not sure Tua's hands are fast enough to land the type of punch McCline dropped Peter with. For Tua to have a chance, he needs to work the body early. I fear Peter's superior stamina proves the difference in an ugly fight.
