He should have made this move YEARS ago. Cedric Kushner may well have ruined any realistic prospects Tua had of mounting a comeback.....time is no longer on his side, but he should still sign with King for some decent fights. Tua ROYALLY ****ed up when they turned down an opportunity to fight Lamon Brewster on HBO.
He has never had the killer instinct that a short heavyweight needs but if he signs with King he will get a title shot ten times faster than any up and commer.
Great news, we should expect to see him get a title shot by early 09, with a chin and power like Tua, you always have a decent chance of beating anyone in the ring.
Further rumors out of New Zealand state that Tua has 2 back-to-back fights lined up. Will he start fighting credible opponents? Who will his promoter be after February? Could it be Lou Duva rather than Don King? Could he actually stick with Kushner? (Unlikely). The Don King thing was only one possibility. We await the outcome. Sorry to those who thought the Don King thing was a definite. -It's not. There are others in the frame. -Kiwi.
Two back-to-back fights...? Okay, that's fine even if they're poor opposition. In-ring time and getting the weight downis the important thing. After those two are out of the way, it's time to **** or get off the pot - get a fight with a Top Ten guy. If he wins that, aim for an Eliminator. No more screwing around, if Tua is not a belt holder or at least a #1 contender by the end of 2008 then retirement is best because otherwise he's just wasting everyones time including his own.
While a agree with what your saying, but maybe he realizes thats he's not good enough to fight the top guys and is looking to try and make decent living off his name, fighting club fighters and Journeymen for the next 5 years.
Good move if Tua were to sign with King. Plenty of opportunities to fight and probably a fast way to another title shot.
