"Tua could face Klitschko for WBO belt Fri, 09 Apr 2010 5:00p.m. By Jim Kayes David Tua could be fighting for the WBO belt in about nine months; but his promoter, Cedric Kushner, is confident Tua will be the number one contender inside a month. It was a fight that failed to stop a nation, but David Tua's 12-round win against Friday Ahunanya rated where it mattered, with the WBO expected to make him their number one contender within the next few days. It means Vladimir Klitschko can't say ‘no’ when Tua comes calling – though just when that will happen isn't known. “I'll tell you what I'll guarantee you: David's going to fight in the next nine months for the world championship – I'm optimistic about that and I feel positive about that,” says Kushner. While Tua was outclassed by Lennox Lewis in his 2000 title fight, Kushner is confident an older and wiser Tuaman is ready to rule the boxing world. “I really, really believe that he's the hardest puncher in the heavyweight division, and he proved last week that if he has to go 12 rounds he's capable of doing that as well,” Kushner says. Before there is any lucrative title fights though, Tua has two fights to go as part of his contract with Maori TV. “Hopefully by next week I'll have a fight sorted out,” says Kushner. “It will be offshore – everyone knows we have two fights left with Maori TV. We plan to honour that contract.” What could also delay things is that Klitschko's next fight is against Russian Alexsandr Povetkin. If he loses, Tua will probably have to wait for a rematch before he gets a crack at the title." This content is protected
would love to see it happen, however I think Wlad might keep Tua at bay with his long reach, jab, and especially the huge height difference
Tua looked pretty fit in his last fight but most importantly I think there's a market for this fight...
