David Tua is considered by some one of the best heavyweights to never capture a major belt. My analysis on Tua was that he is one of the more devastating pressure fighters and power punchers in heavyweight history with a solid jaw to match. In his prime he could wrack up very high punch output and had great stamina. He never showed great head movement and struggled with fighters that could move and punch. In his prime in the mid to late 90's I think he was a very formidable test for any past or current champ. Still I think if things went differently he had the kinda stuff to beat some of the other belt holders of his time on given nights.... I'd like to see how you guys think he would've stacked up if he had come around a decade earlier in the 80's... likely everyone including myself would pick Holmes to beat him as that would be a bad match up for Tua I think. but I'd like to see what you guys think about other match ups against some of the WBA champions. Would you favor him to beat....
    Tua
    vs Thomas
    vs Tucker
    vs Page
    vs Berbick
    vs Coetzee
    vs Witherspoon
    vs Spinks
    vs Tubbs

Loses a decision to the best version of tony tucker. tucker could stick and move for 12 rounds he had great speed (landed a triple left hook on tyson) good power good chin and fantastic legs. I favor Tua all the others. Thomas has a good chance on his best night but would have to fight the perfect fight. witherspoon is a live dog as well but i would only favor tucker

He would lose to most of them. Tua wasn't really that good.

    Tua
    vs Thomas - Thomas W12
    vs Tucker - Tucker W12
vs Page - Tua late KO
vs Berbick - Tua late KO
vs Coetzee - Tua late KO
    vs Witherspoon - Witherspoon W12
vs Spinks - Tua early or late KO
vs Tubbs - Tua late KO or Tubbs W12

In all cases where I picked Tua by KO, he'd be outboxed and loses on judges' cards till he gets the KO

I pick Tua vs fighters that either didn't have great jab and/or were relatively easy to hit

How is it possible that Tua is this overrated?

Tua would be another erratic contender in the 80s. Instead of coke, cheeseburgers would be his vice. He beats some, loses some, but never comes out of the pack. At some point he pulls off a good enough win to be marketed as a challenger to Holmes and gets clowned in a lop sided loss.

I know it's amazing, he did virtually nothing but you'd think he was a top 10 ATG HW the way some go on.

Thomas out point s him but has a few scary moments
Tucker keeps moving, jabbing. A unanimous Dec
Page out points him till halfway tua get s him
Berbick in his best day loses a decision.
Coetzee brawls with tua, gets stopped in the fifth
Witherspoon out point s tua even hurting him a couple of times.
Spinks plays it cagey but gets caught late on and stopped
Tubbs out points him in one of Tony's best performance

If Tyson could knock out Spinks in 1 round then Tua would too. Every person that Tyson beat on the list Tua would beat. People like Witherspoon who Tyson avoided would probably beat Tua in 12. Page had power but couldn't really take a punch. Tucker would get stopped late by Tua.

lol at tua stopping prime tucker with his slow feet, no chance. Tyson didnt even get close and he was faster and more accurate.

i don't know if tua is overrated or not but i can tell you that tua would knock marciano clean out(his real version 5'10 and 185 pounds, not the fantastic version 6'6 and 250)
