If chris wins the fight, I would be very impressed. Yea tua is old but the power and chin are a tough combo

    I believe Tua will win.

    But Arreola may surprise.

A great fight to make - and one that will gain huge viewership and a lot
of attention. No wonder the promoters want it.

Arreola should outwork Tua, still dangerous fight for anyone.

    I'm picking Tua for this.

Firstly, even though he's not fougth ayone decent in his latest comeback, he's actually looked pretty decent. In his last fight he weighed in at 234lbs, which is the lightest he's weighed since coming in at 233lbs versus Chris Byrd 7 long years ago. Excluding that Byrd fight, where Tua lost a lot of energy from losing 40lbs in training, the previous time he weighed less than that was 10 years ago in the first Hasim Rahman fight where he weighed 228lbs. This proves to me that Tua is not just after one more payday, but is serious about his comeback. I think a lot of the promoters know this, and thats why he's found it difficult to get fights.

Be sure of this - David Tua, weighing between 230 and 240lbs, is a beast.

He got a 10-rounder in over Robert Hawkins last year, and its a long time since Tua went 10 rounds. Hawkins is a good journeyman, look at his record, but he got outboxed by Tua. In an amatuer fight, based on pure boxing ability and not punching power, I'd say that Hawkins and Arreola are just about equal. The knockouts of Cerrone Fox and Saul Montana showed that the power is still there. Say what you want about Arreola's power, but Tua's left hook is one of the most powerful shots in boxing. Only Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson hit like that.

Finally, Arreola is not good enough to box Tua to a decision loss. He comes forward and bangs, and that is suicide against Tua. He's got some decent fundamentals, but the only guys who've beaten by outboxing him Tua are Lennox Lewis and Chris Byrd, both of whom were leagues above Arreola in terms of skill. Arreola has heavy footwork, very little bounce, and stands directly in front of his man. He isn't going to be able to do an Ike Ibeabuchi on Tua, because he's not a completely insane nigerian powerhouse maniac.

Finally, its worth pointing out that Tua is not that old. He's 35, and he's had the last few years off. He doesn't get involved in long fights, he's not been in a genuine war since Ike Ibeabuchi, and is pretty fresh for his age. Although the short, stocky, powerhouse type of fighter tends to burn out quickly (Marciano retired at 32, Fraizer ruined by 30, Tyson shot after the age of 28) Tua is not damaged goods yet.

If the Arreola team think that Tua is past-it and ripe for the picking, they're in for a shock here. There's a reason why every promoter in boxing refuses to let their protected prospects fight Tua and thats because he is still a massive threat to anyone in the division.

Looking forward to this fight, I'm guessing it'll be a 3 round war where Tua blasts out the game but outgunned Arreola in spectacular style.

No, I'm not being negative. I'm being realistic. The loser will either be "passed his used by date (Tua) or over-hyped (Arreola). May or may not be true, depending on the fight itself. But the winner goes on to fight Peter (so they say). So it's a win win for the winner.

Tua has three months to get in shape. Believe me, he's not now in shape from reports and rumours I hear. But in three months, he'll be ready. I expect him at around 240 or a little higher. My bigger worry for the Tuaman is his inactivity for over a year, and having not stepped up in 5 years.

Regardless, should be a great fight while it lasts.

Diehard - when do we expect an announcement?

This strikes me as a major deal, so I'm sure they will want to announce it
    properly.

The whole boxing world may actually take a real interest!!

Kiwi, I expect it to be announced in the NZ paper, the Sunday News, this Sunday. Kushner usually announces Tua's fights there. However, supposedly he is working out the contract now, so who knows what he'll do. If it's signed, sealed, and delivered, will he wait until Sunday. Surely it should be done today or tomorrow, unless there's a problem. The site has been done, the money done, and now the particulars need to be done.

Reading between the lines, if Tua gets the amount of money he wants, he fights Arreola. Kushner said that has happened. But I don't think these two can fill the Staples Center unless there's another great fight there also.

i think arreola is poor man's povetkin. he's busy and aggressive but lacks povetkin's skill and handspeed. He hasn't fought 1 live opponent yet so there are more questions than answers with this guy, but he looks very raw and hittable. Povetkin would clown him.

As for Tua, i though he mentally checked out awhile ago. Wouldn't surprise me to see arrerola outwork tua to a decision as long as he has a decent chin. Tua can't let his hands go anymore

Kobe, I agree with you. He is a poor man's Povetkin. Or a rich man's Shane Cameron, minus the bleeding. Or a middle class Vinny Madderone, without getting ko'd.

Depends how shot Tua is now! If Areola will adapt his style and try to out box Tua then Arreola by UD! If he will be trading with Tua than its Tua tko! Any way has Arreola ever been down! (whats his chin like)?

No he doesn't. Both Povetkin and Arreola ko thru constant power shots. Povetkin is more skilled, more accurate, and has faced the better competition.

Tua's not shot. Just rusty and unmotivated, and probably overweight. On Oct. 18th, let's hope he gets rid of all 3 obstacles.
