Yes, he had a shoulder injury 10 days before the fight, and couldn't spar anymore. He's had surgery on it, and it will be tested against King on March 19th. He's fighting Barrett in NZ for the $$$, and also because the first fight wasn't Tua's best performance. He wants to rectify it. Tua said he had no legs in the 12th, and that's why he got knocked down. This is Tua's first fight after the MTV deal, so he's looking to make some money. Barrett wants the fight cause he felt robbed with the draw.
Why is Tua fighting this fight? He should be trying to get in the ring with Dimi, Arreola, Adamek, Helenius, Povetkin, Solis, Champbers, Austin, Thompson.... Fighting a trilogy with a gatekeeper fighter is a waste of time and energy.
I agree slacker. He needs to fight King to test his shoulder, and get his confidence back from the Barrett knock down and draw. He's pretty disappointed in his performance. But yeah, he needs to fight some of the guys mentioned above. I think he should fight Boytsov, who's ranked in all the alphabets, or someone the WBO would feel is a mandatory to Klit. Tua is ranked #2, with Adamek #1. Adamek is already booked to fight a Klit. Tua needs to position himself for Klit's next fight after Adamek. If it's a mandatory, he gets $$$$s. Otherwise, he gets lowballed at $400,000 like last time Klit offered that amount.
But in all honesty, here are the chances of those fights actually coming off: Possible: Austin - Likely nothing better on the table. Thompson - Likely nothing better on the table. Peter - Likely has nothing better on the table. Unlikely: Arreola - Can't afford a KO loss at this point in his career. Helenius - Rising star, would probably jab Tua into a UD if Sauerland isn't afraid of Tua. Impossible: Boystov - I don' think this guy actually fights. Adamek - Lined up for bigger and better things Povetkin - Don't see it happening. Too much risk of completely derailing his career if he's KOed by Tua. Solis - Surely is training for Vitali Chambers - Inline for the IBF mandatory. Not gonna risk that on Tua.
I gotta give it to em, they've created quite a bit of anticipation for this rematch between to supposedly has-beens. I know I am eager to see the rematch. I hope they get well paid, and the winner goes on to bigger things.
its a fight for redemption and for honor. Everyone thinks everyone is shot these days. There might be one, or maybe two fighters in the world today that are not quite shot yet.......just give it time i reckon.:hey So two shot fighters will get a match with a shot champion one day if all goes well and go down in history as the GOAT out of all the shot fighters.:deal
No Iceman, Monte had his fight last week. Tua has his fight March 19th. From July-March, he's been recovering from a shoulder injury. Slacker, that's a very good analysis of his possible opponents. Truth be told, he doesn't have to fight a top ten guy to fight Klit. He was already offered the fight, but lowballed at $400,000. And if Chisora can fight Wlad, then there's no requirement that he be the next legitimate contender. Wlad and Klit are running out of opponents after Adamek and Haye. How about Dimitrenko? But my thinking is that Tua has to negotiate from a position of strength, or get lowballed again. That's why he needs to become the mandatory. It would be good if the WBO mandated a Boytsov vs Tua fight, as those are the next two in line after Adamek. Or fight Peter or Arreola for the fireworks and big $$$s.
Barrett said on another website that he had the flu when he fought Davis. Yeah, right. Also said he had Tua's number, and could beat him 7 days a week, and twice on Sunday. Never knew Barrett to talk smack, but he's gonna pay for this. He won't make it outta the third round.
I recall Barrett was putting Tua on the canvas. Tua will be outboxed by a wider margin this time. He is too far past it for even a Monte Barrett.
If Tua takes this guy seriously and focuses on this fight then yes, he'll make quick work of Barret. Of course that's what I said before their first fight.
