Could the Samoan hard man put out Lyles lights? Or is Big Ron too tough for him? Lyle who kod Shavers vs David Tua who destroyed John Ruiz? 12 rounds.
Tua runs over him, too much difference in the chin department, Tua starts too fast. Tua KO4. Bad matchup for Lyle, there'd have to be some freak occurrence where Lyle starts fast (rare) and makes Tua respect his power and boxing ability and tiptoe his way to a UD. But Lyle aint no Lewis
Tua could hurt Lyle early, Ron would probably try attacking him from the go and find himself catching left hooks. I see this fight being short and brutal. I'll take your pick at 4 rounds tops.!
Too bad there's no footage of Lyle vs Bonavena. That would be the closest example in their careers. I doubt it goes past the 5th. If it does, I take Lyle by close decision, maybe even dropping tua once while he himself has to get off the floor and gather his bearings once or twice. It would be a savage war. Tua by home run hook KO is also a distinct possibility.
Ron Lyle has a pretty good resume, fighting the likes of Oscar Bonavena, Jimmy Ellis, prime George Foreman, Muhammad Ali, Jerry Quarry, Earnie Shavers, and Jimmy Young. David Tua, has also an impressive resume, having fought the likes of Monte Barrett, Chris Byrd, Lennox Lewis, and Michael Moorer. Lyle, is the taller of the two, 6"3, Tua is 5"10. I see the bout going the distance, Lyle by a comfortable decision. He has taken the heavier blows before in his career. Tua has too, but Ron outboxes him.
I don't think Tua runs over him if young Foreman didn't. Ron was a pretty damn good counter puncher when he wanted to be. Ron was tough as nails but the real question was his gas tank.
Interesting .. If Lyle used his jab and coxed with the occasional power shot he may do it but if the Tea that fought Ike shows up I like Too.
First I must thank you Ferguson! You have presented me with my first chance to pick The Real Tua to actually win a hypothetical. 4-5 rounds at the most...perhaps 2-3 hard hitting highly contested rounds before Lyle and his horrific stamina and his limited skill set begin to fold under the heavy blows of Tua. It feels strange picking him for a change...I think I kinda like it!
I think with the way tua fights ...and lyle was there to be hit I see him bombing lyle out ..lyle will have a moment but tua could take a shot...
The only guy who who was remotely chinny that beat Tua near his prime was Lewis. (And Rahman came close in the rematch which neither seemed to train for.) Chances are that Tua stops him whenever he lands a big shot.
