John Ruiz has been in 12 world title fights and never been stopped. Except by David Tua. Who did it in 20 seconds. Hasim Rahman. Michael Moorer. Oleg Maskaev. Fres Oquendo. These guys are all world class fighters, not ATGs but very solid contenders at least. Four of them held main belts. All of them were KOed in devastating fashion, not stopped by steady accumulation but knocked the **** out. :hat
The Jones and Peter ones i will give you, but Johnson scored more than a flash knockdown. Toney was as hurt as i've ever seen him, though he recovered very well. Toney does have an amazing chin, but at this point, i'm not sure if it can stand up to Tua's gigantic power. Thing is, Tua has a lot of trouble with movement and tall fighters. Toney neither moves nor is tall. In fact, he may be the shortest Tua opponent ever. I think that's bad news, because Toney can't hurt Tua. On the other hand, Tua was helpless against Byrd, who is short and didn't use that much movement, but relied on slickless mostly. Neither boxer has beat a rated opponent in several years, so this would be a good crossroads fight.
Vlad and Vitali will stand Tua on his head. Tua's never been able to deal with big rangy heavies who keep him on the end of the jab. As for the Bryd fight i suggest you go and watch it and see the differences between Bryd and Toneys style. Bryd hen pecked juked and fainted his way to victory. Toney wont do that. He'll stay in the centre of the ring with Tua and wont budge. Toney isnt a guy who gets on his bike. Theres no way Toney can survive Tua's punches for 12 rounds by staying in the cup. As for Haye Tua would steam roll him. And for the record Tua gets outboxed by EXCEPTIONAL boxers. Thats exactly what LL and Byrd was for some time at heavy. Ike was an exceptional fighter but that fight was fought in a phone booth. There was no outboxing to speak of.
Bad matchup for Toney, which i think ends very badly for him. Toney is incredibly gifted and skilled, his sheer talent is phenomenal. Which is a nice contrast to Tua who is gifted but in the outright physical department; he's incredibly strong, has punching power that is simply beyond words, and his chin is frankly outstanding. To top it off he has, or at least used to have, great conditioning. I think at this stage Tuas power, activity and sheer relentlessness would make Toney fold; he doesnt have the movement, power or activity to keep Tua at bay, or even anything to make him think twice, thrice or even four times about coming in. toney has a brilliant beard, is very hard to hit clean and is a real slick customer but I just cant see Toney hanging in there with Tua for the distance. I'd honestly predict Tua is the 1st one to hand Toney a [t]ko loss.
ill give ruiz moorer was shot- and dont even start with the other 2. thats taking the ****. thats like me saying a shot jeremy williams, and samuel peter also beat maskaevs lousy ass out.
I think the same. Toney doesn't have the pop to keep Tua off him, and he will stand right in the centre of the ring where Tua can find him easily. He will be hit flush, and when that happens, his bell will be rung to the extent that he won't be able to bull**** has way out of it, amazing skill and slickness or not. :hat
Tua is what 5"10 and Toney is 5"9 both are pudgy....Have not seen Toney since he was ready to KO Rahman....I favor Toney but Tua can land in this inside fight, James can roll but I dont see him getting fit enough or have the wheels under him like Byrd....Good fight to see but looks like Tua is fighting Kali Meehan an easier bigger target....How dedicated can James get, he should weight 200 to 210 at the very most and David should be 220-230 at the most to add a little life to his power....still interesting
Tua beat a 28 year old Maskaev, not a 40 year old version. And he did it out of nowhere in the 10th round. Who has Samuel Peter knocked out with vicious, sharp punches rather than heavy, slow, clubbing shots? Put a Sam Peter highlight KO reel next to a David Tua highlight KO reel and there is no comparison. Tua has destroyed better fighters than Peter has ever beaten, and he KOs nobodies in far more devastating fashion as well. He just about killed Ruiz in the ring, nobody else has put 1/10th of the hurt on Ruiz over 12 rounds that Tua did in 20 seconds. :hat
Toney is 41 years old, i don't think he's the same. and plus, at HW he doesn't have serious power like he had at 160.
True, i'm just saying the Byrd fight is the only positive that i could see in Toney's favor. Btw, i had Tua edging Ibeabuchi by one point.
I'd favor Tua now. Style wise not good for Toney and he seems more easier to hit and even worse more easier to hurt than ever.
I rather see Tua vs Peter or Tua vs Arreola cause style wise those are 2 great fights. Tua vs Peter makes the most sense now since both are trying to start over fresh.
